Xiao and Y/n just finished one sparring session. It was around a month in, and even though she had grasped the very basics, she was nowhere close to even landing a single hit on the yakshas. Today, all the other yakshas had been assigned to a mission with Morax, leaving the two of them alone in Nantianmen.

Xiao told Y/n to take a short break, so Y/n, sitting under a tree trunk, had her phone out and texted Cleo. Suddenly, she paused and had a weird look on her face.

"Y/n. Do you want to - what's with that expression?" Xiao asked, as he came towards me. She immediately stopped texting so as to not look like an idiot messing with her fingers.

Y/n kept her eyes glued to her phone. "Nothing...I just had a strange thought. I'm fine. Let's continue?"

"Alright."

Despite training for hours with Xiao, she couldn't seem to get the hang of using the polearm. Her movements were slow and uncoordinated, and her fatigue was starting to take its toll. She could feel her grip weakening as she struggled to keep up with Xiao's instructions.

"Focus, Y/n," Xiao called out. "You need to steady your footing and grip the polearm firmly."

Y/n tried to concentrate, but the weapon still felt awkward in her hands. She was doing her best, but it seemed like she was never going to get the hang of it. Her frustration mounted as she struggled to keep pace with the yaksha's fluid movements.
