It was Saturday. After a full week as working mums, the women were tired.

For the most part, their week was quiet; work, home, and repeat. The twins were well-behaved; spending most of their day with Grandma Eliza and nights sleeping.

There had been no new breakthroughs with Lena's research into Leigh's condition, which was slowly starting to take its toll on the mother. Luckily, the girl's condition hadn't worsened.

The two women had reached the end of their week and were exhausted. All they wanted to do was relax and enjoy the weekend with their daughters. But this was not the case. Kara was the first to wake; the DEO had called her in. Next was Lori, quickly followed by Leigh, and the twins' wails were Lena's alarm. And this was all before 4 am.

The twins were inconsolable, and Lena was nearing the point of tears. She didn't know what to do. The girls had never cried for this long or this loud. She felt terrible; she couldn't calm her own daughters.

The sun had long since risen, and the girls were now asleep. After two hours of nonstop crying, they'd finally fallen asleep. Two hours of Lena rocking and singing and whispering to them as they cried. Only now, Lena couldn't sleep. Trapped beneath her sleeping daughters, she spent the next hour gently rubbing their backs as she waited on Kara to return.

It didn't take much longer for Kara to fly back into the penthouse.

"They're okay?" Kara asked as she approached the bed.

"Shhh, they're sleeping," Lena whispered.

Kara nodded.

"I'm going to shower, I'll be back soon." She kissed each of her daughters' heads and pecked Lena's cheek before floating into the ensuite.

Lena closed her eyes and listened; she listened to the sound of her daughters breathing, the running of the shower. It was calming.

She heard the blonde's footsteps as she walked back out into the bedroom. "Hey." Lena opened her eyes.

Kara was now out of her supersuit and dressed for the day. "How are you feeling?"

"Exhausted," Lena sighed. "I don't know what to do. I don't even know what's wrong."

Kara nodded as she walked around to the empty side of their bed. She sat and gently lifted their daughters into her arms, careful not to wake the infants.

"It's okay, baby. You're okay." Her words did little to calm Lena's growing anxiety.

"Talk to me." She could see that something was wrong with Lena.

Lena sat up, leaning her back against the headboard. She took a deep breath, trying to control her emotions. She had always prided herself on being able to hide her feelings; she was the queen of compartmentalization. But Kara was her partner, the mother of her daughters, and the love of her life.  They had promised to tell each other everything.

"I feel useless. I feel like a failure. I can't calm my own children," her words shaked. "I can't -I can't even heal Leigh. What am I even good for?"

"Lena," Kara looked at her with sadness in her eyes. How could she not have noticed how much Lena was struggling? "You're a wonderful mother, the girls adore. You're doing amazing."

"I-I," Lena stuttered.

"And as for Leigh, you're going to figure it out; I have faith in you. I believe in you." Kara smiled at her.

Lena sniffled. "How are you so good at this? It's not fair."

"I'm not, I'm just winging it." Kara winked. "We'll get through this."

"We'll get through this," Lena repeated.

"We will." The blonde superhero leaned over the babies in her lap and kissed Lena. It was only a quick peck, but it left Lena's heart fluttering.

The brunette's hand caressed Kara's cheek. "I love you."

"I love you too."

Lena looked down at her daughters in Kara's lap. "You can't be comfortable. Do you want me to take the girls?"

Kara shook her head, "No, I've got them. Why don't you go get ready, I'll take care of the girls. We have to be at Catco within the hour." She offered.

Lena nodded and raised herself out of bed. "I'll be quick."

Kara waited until she heard Lena's shower start before taking the girls back to their room.

When she had gotten them dressed and changed their nappies, she took the twins into the kitchen and started on breakfast; a bottle for each of the girls and breakfast sandwiches for Lena and herself.

Just as the girls finished their bottles, Lena appeared, dressed and ready to leave.

"You're amazing," Lena smiled as she accepted the sandwich from Kara.

"I try."

"Our driver should be here soon. We should go over our story for Cat." The mothers along with Alex, Eliza, and a few DEO specialists had finalized a story for Kara and Lena to use for Catco's story.
