"...How foolish can you be? Don't you remember what happened the last time you gave CADMUS your solar radiation?" The blonde superhero had been listening to her sister's lecture since she stepped foot into the DEO.
"How long is she going to have to stay here?" She was eternally grateful when Lena cut off Alex's spiral. "At most an hour, she'll be finished around the same time I'm done with the girls," Alex answered before excusing herself, not without glaring at Kara one last time.
There was a pregnant pause as Lena watched Kara fidget with her fingers, neither of them sure what to say to the other. Kara couldn't apologise and Lena didn't want to argue with the blonde, especially when she looked so....there was no word to describe how she looked right then.
"I'm not sorry." Kara was the first to break the silence.
"Excuse me?" It wasn't that Lena didn't hear Kara's words, it just wasn't anywhere near what she expected from the Kryptonian," would you like to repeat yourself?"
"I'm not sorry," she repeated herself, words a bit louder this time," I would never be sorry for protecting our children. I would do anything...give up anything for them. And being sorry would mean I regret my actions and I don't. I would do it all again if it meant I was getting our daughter back in the end. Lori and I are here-" Lena cut Kara's explanation short.
"And what if you weren't? What would happen then? What if you didn't come back to me? What if my mother killed you? Did you think about how any of this would affect Leigh and Lori? Or me? Was I not worth waiting for?" Lena's voice didn't waver nor did it raise as she spoke. She was eerily calm, and Kara didnt know how to handle that. She had plenty of experience with angry Lena but this was something new...something she never wanted to have to experience again.
"I am here," she pulled the smaller brunette into her chest.
She didn't hear it but she felt the sobs as they racked through Lena's frame. "I'm safe. We're all safe. We're gonna be okay." She kept repeating it as she comforted Lena.
Even after Lena calmed she remained in Kara's warm embrace, soaking in all of her unspoken words. Her head on Kara's chest listening to the steady heartbeat, limbs entangled with Kara's. It was perfect.
"I love you." She couldn't control it. The words had already left her lips when she realised what she'd said. She closed her eyes and waited for it to all fall apart.
"I love you too," the blonde responded, gently kissing Lena's forehead.
"No, Kara. I'm in love with you. I love you so much it's almost-"
"I know," Kara cut her off," and I love you. I love you so much it hurts when I'm not with you."
They couldn't take it back. But somehow in that tiny moment of peace, the thought didn't even cross their minds.
Lena sat up and stared straight into Kara's blue eyes, looking for something, she wasn't exactly sure what, maybe she just wanted to look at the blonde's face. And Kara was enjoying the attention the pretty brunette above her was giving her.
Neither of them knew who made the first move but after green eyes kept glancing down to pale-pink lips, red lips met pink. The room was charged with their finally cut tension.
The first kiss was soft, short merely a few seconds of their lips connecting. The next started soft but when Lena's tongue swiped Kara's lips all sweetness faded leaving passion, and hot unbridled lust in its wake.
Kara was the first to pull away, head spinning not only from Lena's effect on her but also from the lack of oxygen. "Wow." Her voice was hoarse.
"That good?" Lena teased between pants.
"Yeah, amazing. I love you." Kara had this big goofy grin on her face as she watched Lena, no doubt replaying the last few seconds on repeat in her mind.
"I love you too. But I think we should stop," Kara's grin fell. "I mean until we talk. No more kissing, until we talk." At the mention of more kissing her grin returned.
Lena moved to get off the bed but Kara stopped her and pulled her back into her chest. Even without her super-strength, she was still able to manipulate the brunette's body easily.
Their peace was interrupted when Alex walked in, toddlers in hand.
"I see you two made up," she said noticing the pair’s position. Lena quickly moved to make herself as presentable as possible in her position.
"Can we go home now?" Kara didn't even acknowledge Alex's statement too caught up in moving her daughters into her arms.
"Yeah, but no strenuous activities, doctor's orders. And Lena, tomorrow she needs to come back for a few more hours in the solar chamber."
"Yeah," even Lena was distracted. Her little family was complete, all she wanted to do was take them home where she knows they'll be safe.
"Well, good night. Love you guys. Oh and Kara, mom says she wants to take her grandbabies for the day tomorrow." Alex said before leaving the small family.
"How are we getting home?" Kara asked the brunette holding Lori.
"I already called my driver. He's waiting." Lena answered.
"We're going home," Kara said to the sleeping toddler in her arms.
