The first thing Kara noticed when she flew back into Lena's apartment was Lena's outfit. She had seen her friend dressed down in jeans and sweaters, but the leggings and sweatshirt she was currently sporting was a whole different situation. "So that's where my NCU sweatshirt went," Kara teased.
Lena jumped up from her bent over position. The baby immediately protested the loss of her play-friend. "You gave this to me," Lena said as she picked up the baby. It wasn't exactly a lie, as Kara did lend her the sweatshirt but never got it back.
"That's not exactly what happened, I lent it to you, and you stole it. Wait till CATCO Hears this 'Billionaire, Lena Luthor steals best friend's sweatshirt'," Kara was enjoying teasing Lena. "I didn't steal it, I just forgot to return it. Go put your bag in my room."
"For you to steal more of my clothes," Kara said before flying away. It was still odd for Lena to see Kara using her superpowers while wearing her normal civilian clothes.
Lena and the baby moved into the kitchen with the food as Kara packed away her clothes. By the time Lena was done plating the food, Kara had finished changing and packing away her clothes, made it back into the living room, and picked a movie.
"Kara, can you come help me with the plates?"
Kara carried the plates of food while Lena carried the newly made baby bottle and the baby. "Titanic?" Lena asked. Kara had gotten Lena addicted to the 3-hour long movie. "Only the best for my best friend."
The women sat with the baby in between them. The women were eating their burgers and occasionally feeding the baby, who refused her bottle and fries.
"Do you think we should give her a name?" Kara asked around a mouthful of her burger. Lena froze mid-chew. "Do you think we should?" She asked, dodging the question. "Yea," Kara answered, "it is getting a bit weird to keep calling her baby." Lena agreed with Kara's statement.
"What do you think we should call her?" Lena asked. Kara took a while before answering, "Leigh Rose Luthor."
"Luthor? Why not Danvers?"
"My two favorite people should be Luthors," Kara said. "That's cute. But I like Danvers more. Lori Rose Danvers."
"Lori? What do you think, baby? Are you Lori," she paused, giving the baby a chance to react," or Leigh?" The baby babbled and clapped her hands.
"Leigh, it is. Now, onto the issue of the last name," Lena said.
Before Kara could start talking, her phone began ringing, interrupting the small family. "It's Alex, I'm gonna take this."
"Hey, Alex." That's all Lena heard before Kara left the room. Leaving a concerned Lena and a confused baby.
"Lena, we need to get to the DEO," Kara said as she made her way back into the living room. Lena's mind came up with a million scenarios of why they needed to be at the DEO, all of which involved Leigh being ripped from her arms.
"Let me just change and put her into something warmer," Lena said. Kara nodded," I'll change her." She took the baby out of Lena's arms and left.
It took Kara no more than a minute to change Leigh out of her pink onesie and into a grey long-sleeved shirt with matching pants and a pale blue overcoat. Lena was still changing when Kara knocked on the door to her room. "I'll be out in a minute."
Lena had added a black windbreaker over Kara's sweatshirt. "Ready?" Lena asked as she walked into the living room.
"How are we going to do this?"
"Well, I can hold her while you hold me," Lena offered.
It took them a while to get situated in Kara's arms. Lena snuggled Leigh between her and Kara in hopes of keeping her warm.
As soon as Kara touched down in the DEO headquarters, Alex had reached her side, not even giving her time to put Lena and the baby down.
"Did you find anything?" Lena asked. "Let's go to my lab," Alex answered, leading them to her lab.
"I found out where she's from." Alex didn't sound happy to be sharing the news.
"That's a good thing. Why aren't you happy?" Kara asked.
"I had agent King look into the missing person database, but that was empty. Then I got a file from CADMUS."
"What does CADMUS want with a baby?" Kara asked.
"She's not just a baby. She's part Kryptonian," Alex explained. "Apparently, Lillian was checking how compatible Kryptonian DNA and human DNA are. And by the looks of the file, she managed to succeed not once but twice."
It took Alex a while to explain to the other women that the DNA used in the experiment was theirs. It didn't take the women long to realize that meant the babies were theirs.
"Are you telling me I have two half-alien daughters, one of which is still being experimented on at CADMUS?" Lena was in shock. If it wasn't for the baby in her arms. . .her baby, she might have been panicking a bit more outwardly than she was.
She hadn't thought much about children in her life, but she always assumed they'd come after marriage. Not that she thought much about marriage, either. But here she was holding one of her daughters, who also happened to be mothered by not only her best friend but also the woman she'd fallen for.
