Within a matter of minutes, the new mothers’ worlds had crumbled. One of their daughters was being held hostage by her psychotic grandmother, and the other had an untreatable blood disorder. Well, it wasn’t exactly untreatable, it’s just that they had no resources to go about treating it and no idea how to go about getting these resources.
“Kara, Lena,” Alex interrupted their moment,“ I’ve already called mom, she’s on her way. Brainy knows, and he’s already in the lab. We’re going to figure this out. El Mayarah.”
“El Mayarah,” the mothers repeated.
“Director Danvers,” the agent called from outside the lab.
“Enter.”
“Agent King, what is it?” Alex asked the agent when he entered.
“I was sent to inform you that agent Henshaw has just arrived and is being taken to the med bay.”
“Is he okay?” Kara asked.
“He was attacked, they’re assessing how badly right now. He’s alive but unresponsive.” The agent answered.
“CADMUS,” Lena said what everyone was thinking.
“How did they know I was waiting on him?” Kara asked.
“I don’t know. But right now, I’m gonna go check on J’onn.” Alex excused herself and left for the med bay.
“Kara, I think you should wait until J’onn gets better before you g-” Lena’s words were cut short by Leigh squirming in her arms.
“Even Leigh disagrees with you. I’m sorry but I have to go.” All Lena felt was a breeze against her cheek, and with that, she knew the blonde had left. She was left standing in Alex’s office alone, save for her daughter in her arms. Sensing her mother’s distress, Leigh gathered her attention. “Mama.” Lena looked down into deep green eyes and smiled. “Let’s go.” After adjusting Leigh in her arms, Lena left. Not just Alex’s lab, she left the building. Bypassing agents as she hastily made her way out of the headquarters. Luckily for both her and Leigh, her driver was already outside waiting on their arrival.
“Back to my apartment,” Lena said as soon as she and her daughter were situated in the car.
“Yes, Miss Luthor.” Her chauffeur replied immediately and started heading in the direction of her apartment.
The ride back home passed quickly; Leigh fell asleep in her mother’s arms, leaving the car in complete silence. As soon as she was home, Lena made sure to lock the door behind her and carry her daughter through the hallway to her bedroom, where she laid the sleeping infant in her crib. Before making a move, she placed a soft kiss on Leigh’s forehead and pulled the blankets up to cover her.
“Sweet dreams,” Lena whispered, not wanting to wake her daughter.
Slowly turning away, Lena left her daughter’s room and made her way to her own. Falling asleep almost immediately after she laid down, cheeks moist from tears she only allowed to fall in the privacy of her room.

It had taken Kara no more than a five-minute flight before she found CADMUS’ base. With its lead-lined walls and heavily armed guards on patrol, it was glaringly obvious.Even without her red and blue suit, she knew it was only a matter of time before her presence would be detected. Using her freeze breath, she immobilized the guards before walking inside. Unlike outside, there weren’t any guards, just a lot of open space and a rancid smell hanging in the air.
If it wasn’t for the approaching heartbeat, she would’ve sworn this base was abandoned. It wasn’t long before Lillian stood in front of her, a grey case in hand. Attempting to use her x-ray, Kara realised that like the rest of the building, it was lead-lined.
“Where’s my daughter?”
“No, good morning, how are you? I wonder what my daughter sees in you.” Lillian’s words only further annoyed the blonde.
“I’m not asking you again. Where is my daughter?” Kara’s eyes flashed blue, a silent threat of her heat vision.
“I don’t think you have any grounds to be the one making threats,” Lillian stepped closer to the hero, “I have your daughter. I have your life in my hands. If I were you I’d start-”
“I don’t negotiate with terrorists, Lillian. I swear to Rao, I’ll kill you if you don’t give me my daughter.” There was something in her voice that scared Lillian more than any of the other threats she’d heard thus far from the blonde.
“I promise you, you’re going to get your little brat. But first, there’s something I want from you.” Opening the case in her hand, she revealed a helmet and next to it a krptonite blade.
Handing the helmet to the blonde, Lillian spoke again,” You know what to do. If you do as I say, I will return you and your daughter to Lena; if you don’t well,” she left it open for the superhero’s imagination.
