The Project

I walked through the hallways of Kingston High wearing a red mini skirt with a black shirt matched perfectly with a pair of black thigh high boots. It was a nice day so I decided to let my hair down in long brown curls.
(Outfit above)

I was definitely looking forward to senior year just like almost everyone does knowing soon I would be away from the classic high school drama.

I surveyed the halls, my emerald green eyes clouded with no emotion as I looked at the regular groups of kids flooding every corner.

The jocks wearing their team jackets while talking to the cheerleaders and some other cute girls from the CCP's, the performers either singing or dancing, the drama geeks practicing for any possible auditions coming up within the school year and the nerds always had their noses in a book.

Each group completely absorbed with their own conversations and activities, hardly ever letting anyone in.

Even so, whenever I walk past any of these stereotypes, everyone and I mean everyone either waves or just nod in acknowledgment. Some even give complements like 'I love your clothes' or just give random comments like 'Hey, have you read this book?' or ' Nice to see you again'.

No one's a stranger to me because unlike other people, I fit in with every group you could imagine.

Of course it's nice to be top of the class and still without a doubt the hottest girl in school while still being involved and excelling in literally everything, it's actually kind of lonely because in reality I don't know exactly where I fit in.

I head straight to my locker and started to pick up a few books I needed for my first class when I heard someone call my name behind me.

I turned around to see Mark heading my way.
He stopped a few feet away from me before speaking up with a wide smile, 'Hey Sophie'.

Mark Huxley was the school's most likely for this years captain of the football team since the last one graduated but that will be determined at try outs.

He also is one of the hottest guys in school with his defined cheek bones, messy blonde hair and captivating blue eyes but, fascinating as he is, has never been known to be a playboy which is one of the things I really like about him.

'Hey Mark, what's up?' I answered my smile genuinely stretched across my face.

'Nothing much', he answered ' Just wondering if you're coming to my party this night.'

'Isn't it a bit too early to be having a party? I mean it is the first day of school', I said shaking my head as I put the rest of my books in my bag and closed my locker.

'That's exactly why I'm throwing a party', he exclaimed, 'Think about it. I'll throw the best party ever at the start of the school year that way every other party will always be compared to mine', he explained with a smug look on his face.

'I have to say Mark, I never knew you were that smart', I said amused.

'Hey!', he pouted as I laughed at his face. 'Anyway,, are you coming?', he asked again this time seeming more eager to hear an answer.

'We'll see' I simply said as I headed towards the direction of my next class.

'I'll take that as a yes', I heard Mark yell behind me as I steered myself to English class.

I step into my English class and see Mrs. Hollister preparing her stuff for the class.

'Good morning Mrs. Hollister', I said as I walk to my seat at the edge of the first row next to a window.

'Sophia. Nice to see you, how was summer?', she asked. 'It was great. I'm sure yours was too?' I replied ' It certainly was dear', she said as a few more people started to enter class.

There were a few minutes before the class started so I went over the training schedule of the football team for the year since I was supposed to submit it during try outs today since I was the coach's assistant.

When the bell finally rang, I put away the schedule and started to take notes as Mrs. Hollister began her lesson.

All through the class I kept hearing people whisper about some new kid in school that was supposedly handsome and trying out for the football team.

The whispers get cut off when Mrs. Hollister starts saying something about a project that would be presented at the end of the school year.

'The project is to give a brief reflection on what you want to do in the future after school. You could present it in pairs or on your own, whatever you choose', she explained.

Suddenly the bell rang and everyone started leaving the class as Mrs. Hollister packed up her things and bid us goodbye.

I stepped out of class with only one thought in mind, 'What do I want to do in the future?'

During lunch, I only had an apple and water as I still thought about what to present for the project.

I sat with the jocks and cheerleaders as they talked about the new kid that was coming for today's try outs but was too distracted to actually listen.

'Sophie?', someone called. I raised my head to stare at Becca, one of the cheerleaders. 'Are you alright? You're never this quiet', she asked.

'It's nothing, just lost in thought', I replied. She just shrugged and continued chatting.

I didn't really mind that she wasn't that bothered about me because being me I couldn't really say I had any true friends, more of companions.

Mark's the closest person I have to a friend but even then it doesn't seem entirely real and in a way I'm cool with that.

The rest of the day goes on and even after the end of all my classes, this remained an unanswered question at the back of my mind.

I pushed the thoughts out of my head as I prepared myself for football try outs.

I guess it's time to meet the new kid.
