An Addition or Two

After a while at the party, I drove back home since I didn't have a lot to drink.

I didn't even bother changing as I crashed on my bed. When I woke up it was a few minutes past 11.

I was already planning on going back to sleep when I remembered I was supposed to head to school for some kind of special tryout session with Mark by 12:30.

I groaned as I willed my body to get up. Being the perfectionist I was, I was aiming at getting there by 12am to make sure everything was ready.

Moving in and out of the bathroom in record time was no new event as I quickly made my way downstairs for breakfast.

I already informed Grace not to come this morning since I was very sure I'd be passed out. I simply made a cup of coffee and grabbed a granola bar from cabinet before making my way to school.

It was exactly noon when I parked my car in the school's parking lot. As expected it was completely deserted, not a single soul in sight.

Getting out of my car I headed straight to the field to set up everything that would be needed for training. While setting up I started coming up with some brief activities we could use to test whoever was coming today.

While I was still setting up, I heard two pair of footsteps coming from behind me. I checked the time and it was already 12: 15, 15 minutes earlier than I thought Mark would arrive.

'It's about time you guys came. Honestly I didn't think you'd be this early though', I said not bothering turning back to face them.

'Sorry for keeping you waiting, we thought we'd at least be early', a voice said that I vaguely recognized that was neither coach nor Mark.

I quickly turned around only to find Tyler and Asher standing there with subtle smiles on their faces.

'Wait you guys know each other? And one of you is hear for tryouts?', I asked.

'Actually, we're both here for tryouts', Tyler said.

'Wait really? I thought it was only one person trying out. I can't believe coach didn't mention that', I said a bit annoyed.

'Well, surprise, it's two of us', Asher said with a bright smile.

'Yay', I said unenthusiastically. 'That still doesn't explain two of you knowing each other and both bumping into me at the same party'.

Asher scratch the back of his head as Tyler spoke, 'Well, we heard you were coach's assistant and someone wanted us to introduce ourselves', he said the last part looking at Asher.

'Separately?', I asked.

'I was unwilling to follow', Tyler explained, sort of.

'Boys. I see your early', coach said walking towards our direction, Mark in tow. 'Sophia, nice to see you early as always. Great job setting up the place', he said looking at me for a brief moment before surveying the field.

'Hey Sophie', Mark said before yawning.

'Looks like someone had a long night', I said.

'Not as long as the morning. I had to clean up before leaving the house', he said stifling another yawn.

I laughed a bit sobering when coach called us to start.

Mark helped in the tryouts and even though he looked like a zombie he was still a bit active on the field.

After a while, coach signaled it was over and called Mark and I to evaluate them. 'So what do you guys think?'

'Honestly, I don't think it's exactly wise to add new players to the team when the season has already started', I said

'That's true but you can't deny their really good and having some more players wouldn't hurt. All we need to do is train them on how to work together with the team.', Mark said

'You have a point, plus their technique is a bit different from ours. We could learn from them and vice versa', I said.

'I guess that's that then', coach said as he motioned the boys to come.

'You boys better be prepared to work hard. You're coming in as the season already started so you'll need to adjust to our team fast. Meet Sophia if you have any problem.', Coach said before waving at us leaving the field muttering something about having somewhere he had to be.

'That means we're in the team right?', Asher asked Tyler.

'Sure does', Mark answered, 'Welcome to the team. My name's Mark, one of the captains. You'll meet the others on Monday'.

'Thanks for accepting us into the team. I'm Tyler and that's Asher.', Tyler said.

'Welcome to the team guys, you were great', I said.

'That means a lot. Honestly we didn't think you'd actually recruit us into the team since we didn't exactly come on time', Asher said.

'Consider yourselves lucky, this one over here almost didn't approve', Mark said pointing at me.

Asher dramatically held a hand over his heart letting out an exaggerated gasp, 'It hurts to know you almost didn't find us worthy'.

'Would you stop fooling around', Tyler said shoving Asher at the side.

'Honestly just be happy I find both of you somewhat skilled', I said.

'Not as skilled as me though', Mark said smugly.

'Maybe', I simply said as Asher and Tyler tried not to laugh while Mark just shook his head already used to my responses.

'As much as I love your presence Sophie, I need some sleep. See you on Monday', Mark said as he slightly waved before leaving the field.

'Typical Mark, leaving me to do all the work', I said as I looked at everything I had to pack up before leaving.

'We could help you out if you don't mind', Asher said.

'That would actually be nice, thanks', I said as I told them where to keep everything and we got to work.

The three of us headed to the parking lot together when we were done and I spotted a black sports car was packed a few meters beside mine, probably theirs.

We were working towards our cars when Asher suddenly asked, 'How's it like being on the team?'

'It's great. Everyone's cool and friendly, you guys will fit right in', I said.

'That's great. I can't wait to tell Jason we got into the team', Asher said.

'Wait. Which Jason are we talking about?', I asked.

'The one on the team, of course', Asher said as Tyler nudged him glaring at him.

We were already in front of our cars when I stopped walking looking at both of them with piercing eyes.

'How do you guys know Jason?'
