It was finally game day and I was bursting with excitement, too bad I couldn’t say the same for the boys.
They were nervous wrecks.
Even coach was nervous, he kept yelling at them about every little thing.
I think he was the main cause of this whirlwind of nerves.
The game wasn’t even starting yet and the team already looked like they just finished three games in a row.
I needed to do something to calm them down. It was only 12pm and the game wasn’t for another five hours.
The other team would be arriving at 4pm so we had four hours to get ready.
The entire school team and the cheerleaders were given the entire day off to get ready for the game, being the first game off the school year it was that important.
Everyone else would start making banners when the school officially closed for the day and from what I heard some of the girls discussing, it’s going to be a glitter fest.
The sun blared as I squinted my eyes trying to watch the team play carefully so I could alert them about any mistakes they were making.
I’m pretty sure I didn’t need to do that since coach was literally doing the exam same thing with more… enthusiasm, then again, it made me feel like I was at least doing something.
We had stopped the special training for a while now to work on team plays and Jason had officially been named captain, along with Mark as he played line back.
I still hadn’t said a word to Jason since that day, even when coach announced that both him and Mark were officially captains.
I wasn’t mad at him, he made me aware of all the things I missed out on and that just made me a bit sad.
I wanted to talk to him but haven’t really found the right time.
Anyway, the team’s been doing great, a few mistakes here and there but nothing coach didn’t yel…, I mean correct.
I honestly think we’re going to win.
Time went by quickly and before I knew it, it was already time for the other team to arrive.
Since I was the head of the welcoming committee, I was supposed to welcome them along with one of the other members, Will.
I left the field to join Will at the entrance.
‘Hey Will’, I said standing beside him as we watched the Chester high school bus stop in front of us.
‘Hey Sophia, just on time’, he said.
‘I always am’, I said with a smile as the players started to step down from the bus.
We introduced ourselves to them before we led them to their assigned locker rooms to get ready.
Will kept the conversation going while I mainly stayed silent listening to their conversation.
Justin, the captain and quarterback of their team seemed overly confident and anytime Will asked about the match, he responded like they had already won.
I rolled my eyes anytime I heard any of his comments, this guy had no idea what he was up against.
We stopped in front of the locker room as we left them to change saying, ‘If you need anything, feel free to ask. Will here will be available at any moment.’
‘What about you princess? ’, Justin asked.
‘I’ll be on the field’, I said before leaving.
I know they were probably asking themselves if I would seriously be on the field playing but if you think about it I didn’t exactly lie.
