I woke up early luckily with no hangover since I didn't drink much yesterday night.
I got ready for school in record time deciding to wear a deep blue high waist jeans, a pink long sleeved crop top and paired it with a pair of black boots.
I picked up my bags and headed straight for the kitchen.
My mouth watered as my nose caught the aroma of bacon and eggs coming from the kitchen.
The first thing I saw was a young woman, back facing me as she attended to the bacon, her blonde hair tied into a low bun.
'Good morning Grace. How's breakfast coming?', I said. Hearing my voice, she turned to face me with a bright smile, her hazel eyes staring at me.
'Good morning Sophie. Breakfast is almost ready, just hold on while I bring you a plate', she said turning back to her cooking.
I sat at the kitchen counter as I watched her. Grace has been our family cook ever since I started high school. Her mum was the head cook before her so we practically grew up together.
She was a beautiful woman in her mid 20s. She isn't married but I keep telling her to go out and meet someone so I can pester the guy like an overprotective sister would but she keeps brushing me off.
After a while, she served my breakfast and before she could say anything I asked, 'So... Anyone special I should know about?' I had a smug look at my face as my face broke into a grin.
'You know there's nobody', she said laughing as she shook her head. I started eating as she said, 'What about you? How was your first day as a senior? Anything interesting happen?'
I swallowed before saying, 'Well, first of all, food's amazing by the way'. She smiled urging me to continue. 'School was okay... There are two new players on the team and there's this new guy, he's also one off the new players and he's pretty good'.
'Tell me more about this new guy', she said her eyes shining with mischief.
'There's not much to say', I said still eating in between sentences. 'He's new, on the team and just has this air of mystery surrounding him'. My thoughts went back to last night.
'Mysterious in what way?' she asked. 'It's not important', I said standing up and heading for the door.
'Thanks for the food Grace, I better get going before I'm late', I said. 'No problem dear. Have a nice day', I heard her say as I closed the door and headed for my car.
The hallways in school were filled with people either talking about Jason or Mark's party.
I headed to my locker turning when I heard someone call my name. Mark was surrounded by the team, well except Jason.
'What's up?', I said approaching them.
'Nothing much', Mark said, ' I was looking for you when you disappeared before I saw your text. Why'd you leave so early.'
'The place wasn't doing it for me. I didn't want to spoil the fun so I left early', I said.
'I'll try not to take offence that you thought my party sucked', he said playfully, 'I'll see you at practice then'. Then he walked off heading to his own locker followed by the rest of the team.
I headed to my first class making my way through the hallways before Nelly, a girl from the music club, approached me.
'Hey Sophia', she said as she tucked a strand of her black hair behind her, her green eyes staring at me.
'Hey Nelly. Do you need help with something?', I asked stopping.
'Well, I need help learning this new piece. The notes are confusing and anytime I play, it sounds off and different from the others. Can you please help me? Everyone else said they were busy', she said.
'Sure. Let's meet after football practice today. Is that okay?', I said.
'That's okay with me. Thank you so much', she said as she visibly relaxed. She waved as she disappeared in the crowded hallways.
I made it to my math class before the bell rang taking my seat. I heard Jason was supposed to be in this class but he was nowhere in sight even after the class.
'He must really not like school for him to skip classes only on his second day here', I thought leaving the class.
I kept an eye out for Jason in the hallways throughout the day but there was no sign of him anywhere.
Even at lunch, he was nowhere in sight.
'Maybe he'll come for practice', I thought as I headed to where the music club sat for lunch.
They weren't bothered by my presence because everyone knew I sat anywhere I felt like.
They talked about the club and how some of the pieces were difficult and I helped solve some of their problems.
It was time for practice and still no sign of Jason.
Before I could say anything Mark spoke to coach , 'Where's Jason?', he asked seeming to have also noticed his absence.
Coach looked up from his clipboard saying, 'He got permission from the principle to be absent today. He'll be back tomorrow. Now get going'.
He blew his whistle and the boys started their laps round the field.
'Why is he absent?' I asked coach when the boys were out of hearing distance.
'Not sure. Principle said it was an urgent matter, that's all I know', he replied.
I was quiet after that trying to come up with a reason why he would be absent while linking it to last night but nothing made sense.
Training ended quickly, I hurried and met Nelly waiting in front of the girl's locker room.
'Hope you didn't wait too long?' I asked gaining her attention.
She looked up from her phone and smiled, 'No. I'm honestly just glad you're helping me'.
We made our way to the music room where she picked up her violin and played the piece. I corrected her hand placements and some of the notes she got wrong.
It didn't take long before she was playing perfectly.
'Thanks again Sophia', she said as we exited the school together.
'It's no problem', I said.
We went our separate ways from there and I hopped into my car, starting the engine as I made my way home.
While driving I passed a hospital and almost hit the brakes when I saw Jason going inside, a cup of coffee in his hand.
'What's he doing in a hospital?', I asked myself as I drove past him.
'This boy just becomes more mysterious day by day', I thought as a smile made its way to my face.
'Interesting'.
