An Unexpected Encounter

To say I was shocked to see a white corolla parked in my garage was the biggest understatement of the year.

My mother's car was right in front of me, meaning she was either inside or she bought a new car and dropped this one here.

On second thoughts, she would've sold the car if she bought a new one, which means... She's here.

I parked my car next to hers and headed into the house. 'Mom?', I called as I stepped into the living room.

She was seated across one of the white sofas, a phone in her hands as she swiped the surface probably reading an article someone wrote about her and her great works in her field.

She sat cross-legged, back straight. Just looking at her gave the impression of perfection at its core.

Her long blonde hair framing her face, her prominent jaw bones on display, her blue eyes shining in the lights that reminded me of a sad image at the back of my mind.

I watched her movements carefully as she turned to face me, my posture unconsciously straightening.

'Sophia. How are you dear?', she said standing up to give me a hug. I embraced her and slowly stepped back. 'I'm great mom', I answered.

Her figure was exactly like mine. She was dressed in a white t shirt and black jeans, simple but nice.

She invited me to sit with her and I did. Taking a quick look at her phone which she abandoned on the sofa I saw that I was right, she was reading a new article recently published about her recent surgery.

'I missed you so much sweetie. I'm sorry I couldn't be home so soon, I was terribly busy. You understand, don't you?', she said in a pleading tone, urging me to say I understood.

I forced myself to stop an eyeroll and instead put on a look of understanding saying, 'Of course I do. You have to attend to your patients. How did the surgery go?'

She hadn't told me about any surgery but I saw it online.

She didn't question how I knew though, instead she answered, 'It was successful. It was a bit tricky but my team managed. I was just reading an article about it, the reporter made me seem like some sort of superwoman that did the impossible.

'That's because you're amazing', I said keeping a smile on my face.

'Well let's forget about that for now. Would you like to eat anything?', she asked.

'Maybe later', I answered.

'No problem. Just tell Grace to put something together when you're ready', she said.

'Grace?', I said a bit surprised, 'I thought you were going to cook?'

'Oh no. I have an appointment at a nearby hospital in a few minutes. I just stopped to see you before I leave. I have to get going now. Bye sweetie', she said standing up. She kissed my cheek and headed straight out the door.

Immediately the door was shut, I quietly whispered to the empty house, 'Bye mom'.

I went up the stairs initially heading for my room but before I knew it I found myself in another room, the walls painted aqua blue.

A reading table was located at the corner and a small shelf at the side. The shelf was empty because the room hadn't been inhabited in years.

It was cleaned regularly though, nothing had changed since the last time someone was in here. There was a poster of a boy band I used to love still on the wall.

I laughed slightly remembering as I pasted it on the wall despite all his protests.

I moved further inside laying on the perfectly made bed recalling everything that had taking place in this room.

'I miss him so much', I said holding back silent tears. My eyes suddenly felt heavy and before I knew it, I was sound asleep.

I woke up with a terrible headache. I looked at my surroundings and slowly started to recall what happened. Well, note to self don't cry yourself to sleep.

I managed to get to the medicine cabinet but to my luck, there was no aspirin. I decided to go get some but since there wasn't any pharmacy nearby, I decided to go to the hospital.

Getting there, I told the nurse at the reception desk my problem informing her there was no need for a check up but she insisted I needed a direct prescription from the doctor.

I had no choice but to agree and wait for the doctor.

After finally getting the aspirin, I was on my way out when a young girl suddenly came running in my direction, behind her a young nurse was chasing her, 'Angel, you know you're not supposed to leave you're room!', the nurse yelled.

I quickly caught her before she could pass me. 'Come on, not fair', she said as the nurse came to a halt panting.

'Thank you', she said under her breadth. 'No problem', answered.

The girl wasn't that young. She seemed to be 13 years old at least with black hair and blue eyes that looked vaguely familiar.

'Come on Angel. Let's get back before your brother gets back', the nurse said.

'Do I have to? It's really boring in there', she said.

I turned to look at her and said, 'I could keep you company, if you like.'

'I'm not sure that's a good idea', the nurse said a bit skeptical.

'That's the only way I'll go without escaping again', she told the nurse.

'Fine', she sighed and started walking, probably to her room.

'It was a normal hospital room, white walls, a window, a single bed with some medical supplies and an oxygen tank next to the bed.

She sat on the bed while I stood beside her as the nurse left us alone. I saw her file on the bed with only her first name on it.

'Angel is a really beautiful name', I said starting a conversation.

'Thanks', she said. Not long after that we were both immersed in conversation before the nurse came in to inform us that her brother was on his way.

'I guess that's my cue to leave then. Maybe we'll meet again', I said.

'I hope so. It was fun hanging out with you. Bye', she said waving as I headed towards the door.

'Bye Angel', I said before disappearing into the halls and leaving the hospital.

~~~~~~~~~~~Jason's POV~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I entered the hospital where my sister was to meet her smiling as she talked to the nurse. It made me happy to know she was alright.
'Did you like her?', I heard the nurse ask my sister.
'Like who?', I said notifying them of my presence as I walked further into the room.
'A girl kept her company while she was waiting for you', the nurse explained.
'A girl? Do you know her name?', I asked.
'I'm sorry, I didn't', the nurse answered.
'What about you Angie, did you get her name?', I asked
'Nope. I forgot to ask', she responded nonchalantly.
'You can't just allow strangers come to your room', I said frustrated at how she acted so nonchalantly.
'Chill. She was nice. Way better than staying alone in this room', she said.
'I really hope I meet her one day so I can judge for myself', I said. 'Come on let's go. I've already sorted out the discharge papers'.
'Finally. I'm tired of being stuck here', she said jumping to her feet practically running out off the room.
'Slow down, I'm still the one driving', I said before thanking the nurse and following Angie out of the hospital.
