They tell us
to find someone who makes us feel whole.
As if, alone,
we are incomplete—
unsolved puzzles
with missing pieces.
But you made me feel whole,
and still didn't fit right.
And the one before you
fit right,
but didn't make me feel whole.
So maybe the truth is this:
you have to be whole on your own.
And find someone
who's own puzzle isn't missing any pieces either,
but still wants to hang it in a wall
next to yours.
