I never cared much
about the time of day
until I met her.
Now I catch myself
constantly checking the clock,
waiting for all the ones to align.
11:11.
To her,
there was something magical about it.
Whenever she missed it,
she would sigh dramatically
and insist the universe
had wasted a perfect opportunity.
But when she caught it in time,
she would turn to me with that smile and say,
"Make a wish."
And every single time,
I could never bring myself to tell her
that mine had already come true.
Because all I had ever really wished for
were moments like that—
standing beside her,
watching her eyes light up
over something so small.
Now every day
I still look for 11:11.
Not because I believe in wishes,
but because somewhere along the way,
it became another way
of looking for her.
