Love is a domino.
When one falls, there's always another that follows.
It keeps moving forward—
touching hearts it never meant to break,
passing through people like a quiet accident
that no one knows how to stop.
And somewhere in all that falling,
we convince ourselves
that maybe this time
the chain will end differently.
But it never does.
One heart knocking into another,
each of us reaching forward
for someone
already reaching for someone else.
Wouldn't life be easier
if the people we loved
simply loved us back?
If every heart fell
in the direction
of the one that pushed it?
But love doesn't work that way.
I learned that
every time you smiled at me
and my heart mistook kindness
for possibility.
I knew you would never love me
the way I loved you.
Still,
I kept waiting.
Thinking maybe
if I stayed long enough,
if I loved hard enough,
something in you
would turn around.
But dominoes don't turn around.
They only fall forward.
And sometimes I wish
I could trace the whole chain backward—
past every hope,
every almost,
every moment I convinced myself
you might eventually choose me—
until I reached
the first domino.
The moment
I started falling for you.
Raw Version :
Wouldn't you agree that life would be easier if the people we love, loved us back?
And as he looked at me with his perfect smile, I knew it was too late. I knew I had made a mistake. Like a domino I had fallen, and I knew that dominoes only fall forward, that they never go back. I knew he would never love me the way I did, and still I tried to convince myself that he would. That maybe if I just tried enough, he would come to realize that maybe it was possible.
If I could just go back to the first domino, I would, the domino that started it all.
