Dear Fear

Dear fear, today you won.
You kept me from becoming
who I was meant to become.

You wrapped your hands around my voice
and turned my silence
into your choice.

Dear fear, I have always wondered
why your touch grows colder
as I grow older.

Why you drag me beneath the night
until I can no longer tell
myself from your lies.

Dear fear, no longer will you be
the keeper of what becomes of me.

One day you will fade like a ghost,
with no frightened soul
left to haunt.

Dear fear, tomorrow things will change.

No longer will I disappear
beneath your weight.

I will learn how to exist again
without mistaking your voice
for fate.
