This first chapter goes by a little slow! Things will get moving next two chapters though! If you know what I mean ;)

Leo's pov

My shift had finally ended, at a staggering twelve am. It doesn't sound bad, but for someone like me, finishing my senior year of High school and having a job, working until midnight is difficult and is becoming more frequent.

My twin sister, Mia, hated it when I worked so late. She says I should find a new job that pays better and is closer to our apartment, but I enjoy the half hour to forty five minute walk home from work at a twenty four seven cafe.

But Trey, my boss, is a complete jackass.

Trey owned the café and had been using me to prepare food and drinks, deliver orders, and wait on tables. He claimed that having me do multiple jobs, he won't have to hire as many people.

In other words, he made my job harder to save a buck or two, he didn't even increase my pay. But what can I do? In my area, few places will take a chance on an eighteen year old who's still in high school.

Being in high school limits my hours drastically. So the bulk of jobs I'd be hired for are twenty four seven places. Since I didn't have my own car, my workplace needed to be close enough for me to walk to my apartment, which further narrowed my work options.

Tonight, I chose to walk an alternate route home, to keep things interesting. As I walked down the sidewalk towards home, I began to hear the faint sound of music. I couldn't pinpoint where its origin was, but I could tell it was indoors, based on the muffled noise.

I continued down the sidewalk. A massive sign with bright red neon letters that read "The Muse" came into my sights. I passed the large, booming building. I walked on the furthest edge of the sidewalk to keep my distance. There was a lengthy line to get into the place. I had never encountered such a popular and intriguing place.

Some people in line wore collars, similar to dog and cat collars. How weird. Who wears collars in public? Some things should stay in the bedroom.

What am I thinking? That's inappropriate, and out in public too? I could never.

I walked by the building quickly, so as to not draw any attention to myself. But to my horror, as I passed the double front doors, the gigantic security guard bouncer guy whistled sharply at me.

I was cat-called in front of what I'm assuming is a nightclub and a line of very weird people. This isn't safe. All kinds of perverts hang around clubs.

I'm a five foot four, eighteen year old boy who weighs one hundred twenty pounds. Someone could easily kidnap me and do who knows what. I sped away until the club was out of sight. I was relieved to see nobody following me. I don't think I'd be able to run the last half hour home.

"Leo, how many times do I have to tell you? Do not stay out past ten pm. It's dangerous!" My sister, Mia, lectured me the second I stepped through the front door of our apartment.

"I'm fine, Mia." I would rather not get into an argument with my sister this late at night. I went to the bathroom to take a shower, ignoring the remainder of Mia's annoyed rambling.

Mia and I lived alone. Our Mom lives elsewhere but pays for a small portion of our rent. She also provided us with a small weekly allowance for groceries. Though, when we finish high school, we're going to have to start paying for ourselves. Seems like a good deal to me!

I was born into a comfortable household. We were never hurting for cash, but we also weren't considered wealthy people. Our Mom taught us how to spend our money wisely when we were younger. It really comes in handy nowa' days.
