"Leo, it's Mia." My sister started, "Someone broke into the apartment. I need you to come home right now."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Just come home." She demanded, then hung up. I looked at my phone in disbelief. Someone broke in?
"What is it?" Corbin asked. He looked concerned by my reaction to the call.
"Something happened at my apartment; my sister wants me home. Now." I told him.
"Is everything okay? I'll drive you." He offered, leading me to the garage. Corbin sped to my apartment. "Did your sister say what happened?" He questioned.
"I don't know. S-She said that our apartment was broken into." I stuttered. Corbin went quiet; he didn't respond to me. He seemed annoyed. "I'm sorry," I spoke softly.
He glanced my way, his expression softened as he looked back at the road. "You didn't do anything wrong." He stated, but I thought otherwise.
"I don't know, you looked annoyed. I thought it was something I did." I spoke gently; I didn't want to anger him more.
"You didn't do anything. I was thinking about something else." He said. I looked out the window, becoming more worried by the second.
When we pulled up to the building, there were two police cars parked outside Corbin parked along the side of the road, which is usually illegal, but parking by the police cars during an emergency surely wouldn't be cause for a ticket.
I jumped out of the car and hurried into the building. Mia was standing in the lobby with two police officers. I went to the trio, and Mia looked worried at what they were telling her.
"I'm here! Is everyone okay?" I asked concerned. Corbin walked up behind me, taking his place by my side.
One of the officers looked towards me, "Yes, nobody was harmed. Are you Leo Rodge?" He asked.
"Yes, I am," I said, confused about why it was important?
"Do you know of anyone who may want to harm you for any reason?" He inferred. Mia, worried and concerned for my safety, turned to me with an open mind.
"Think, Leo. Really think." She said.
"What? No one, I don't believe so," I expressed, Trey couldn't have done this, could he? "Why do you ask?"
"We have reason to believe you were the target regarding this break in." The police officer explained. "If there's anyone you think would be capable of harming you, it would be in your best interest to inform us." He spoke seriously. He was scary. Both of the officers were.
"O-Okay," I looked down. They had information that I didn't. What 'reasons' do they have to believe I was a target? What did they see in my apartment? I'm scared. Someone was able to break into my place of living.
What would have happened if I was home when that happened? Would I have been hurt? So many questions, each of which made me more nervous by the second.
Corbin placed his hand on my lower back, pulling me from my thoughts, "Have you identified the person who broke in?" He asked the officers.
"No, sir. We've reviewed the security camera footage, but we weren't able to get an ID on the person." One of the officers explained, "But we have confirmed the intruder has fled the premises."
The second officer turned to Mia and I, "We do recommend you two find somewhere to stay for tonight. It would also be a good idea to look into other forms of security. We can walk you two up to the apartment if you'd like to gather a few belongings for a few days." He explained.
