Chapter 47

Chloe made tea as we sat around the living room. When Mia saw me, her eyes were warm and caring. I was relieved to see her in a good mood.

Buttermilk hopped into my lap and curled into a ball to fall asleep. The little kitten looked a hair bigger than usual. The little baby is growing up.

"So, Corbin, did you finally man up?" She bit out.

Corbin half smiled and leaned back in his seat. He knew Mia was going to be a jerk, but I'm glad he didn't give in to her rudeness.

Chloe hit Mia on the arm to silence her from making mean comments. "We are happy to have you, regardless of our differences," Chloe said, forcing herself to remain tame.

Corbin talked with Chloe while I talked with Mia. Well, it was more like Chloe interrogated Corbin while Mia lectured me.

"You could've texted," She sighed. "How could I have known you were safe or not?"

"I didn't think about texting, I'm sorry," I said genuinely.

"Where were you? The night you said you were going to study with Ryan? I called him, and he said that you two never had a study session planned,"

"I went to... Michael's party," I mumbled.

Mia stared at me with a war behind her eyes. "I should've known,"

"Nothing happened! I swear! Corbin came to pick me up before anything could go wrong," I excused.

The kitten hopped off my lap, probably annoyed at the tense atmosphere. He ran off in the direction of my room, leaving me in the dust.

After explaining myself, Mia started to lighten up. I knew she was trying to be supportive of Corbin and I, despite our age difference. Chloe was skeptical of Corbin, but not because Corbin was in a relationship with me.

She was skeptical because he was the only one who knew Lucas' partner. The man with a name that started with an M, that was all Corbin remembered.

"Can we not talk about that? I don't like thinking about how that guy is still on the loose," I asked shyly. Everyone seemed to agree with me, and they dropped the subject right there and then.

"I was thinking about having Leo stay at my place for a few nights a week, would that be conducive to your schedules?" Corbin asked the girls.

The two looked at one another, then at me. "What do you plan to do with him while you're alone together?" Chloe asked knowingly.

"That's not important," I chimed in.

Chloe held her hands up in defeat. "Fine. Leo's an adult, so as long as he's okay with it, then I guess we are as well,"

After we finished our tea, Corbin was on his way out. He told me he would pick me up around eight in the evening, and to dress appropriately. He gave me a kiss on the forehead before he left, which made my heart flutter.

After he left, I went straight to the shower. I got changed into my clothes and started rummaging through my drawers and closet for a good outfit.

I couldn't show excessive skin, or else Erick would get angry with me, but I also wanted to show enough skin for Corbin to find me attractive.

I settled on a small pair of shorts with a garter strap around my thigh. The garter was connected to my shorts by a small vertical piece of leather.

I decided on a long sleeve crop top as my shirt. It would only show a small bit of my midriff, so Erick and Corbin shouldn't have any complaints.
