It was chemistry class with Cassie's least favorite teacher, Mr. Harris. He was passing out quiz papers to everyone. Cassie was sitting beside Stiles who was sitting behind Scott.

"Alright, it's causing me mental anguish to say this, but he's right," Stiles muttered to Scott as soon as Harris left his side.

"I know."

"Who's right?" Cassie questioned, not exactly caught up on what was happening.

Stiles sighed before telling her. "Jackson."

She made a face showing disgust just by hearing his name. "Since when is he right? He's... Jackson."

"I'll explain later, Cass. Look, what if the next body part she steals is from someone who's still alive?"

"Lydia stole a body part-"

"This is a pop quiz, Mr. Stilinski and Miss Williams. If I hear either of your two voices again, I may be tempted to give you detention for the rest of your high school careers," Harris interrupted.

"Can you do that?"

"Well, there it is again. Your voice. Triggering the only impulse, I've ever had to strike a student repeatedly and violently. I'll see you at 3:00 for detention."

"Asshole," Cassie muttered.

"You too, Miss Williams?"

She shook her head. "No thank you, sir."

She shot Stiles an apologetic look before continuing her quiz.

--

Cassie was walking to her next class, staring at the floor, when she bumped into someone. She scolded at herself before crouching down with the person she bumped into.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention," she apologized, helping him pick up his stuff.

"It's fine-" he cut himself off when he saw her face and examined every feature of it. "I-I'm Matt, by the way."

She looked up at him and gave him a kind smile. "Cassie." She helped him up off the floor and walked away to her next class.

"See you around!"

She looked back at the dirty blonde boy. "You too." She continued her walk, holding onto the straps of her backpack.

He stared at her in awe as she walked away, before walking to his next class himself.

--

Cassie went downstairs to get a snack from the kitchen when she saw her mom in her deputy uniform, grabbing her keys.

"Hey, where are you going?"

She looked at Cassie weirdly. "Cassie, sweetheart, I'm in my work uniform and I'm grabbing my car keys. What do you think?"

"Right, yeah sorry. Um, can I come?"

"Sweetie, the last time I took you to work, you tried to interview the suspect who later became a literal fugitive."

"And I will use the same manipulative tactic I used before. Either I come with you, safe and sound in your car, or I follow your car on my bike."

"You're bluffing."

"Yeah, the last time you thought that was when I was in 8th grade and almost ended up being in a hit-and-run. You remember that mom?"

There was a long silence until Vanessa sighed in defeat and frustration. "Fine, come on."

Cassie grinned victoriously as she followed her mom out the door to her car.

--

Cassie and her mom arrived at the crime scene.

"Can I please have permission to get out of the car this time?" Cassie begged.

"Yeah sure, you're probably gonna do it anyway," her mom replied, unbuckling her seatbelt.

She grinned at her mom and got out the car just after her mom did. Just as she did, she saw a certain buzz cut boy who was having a conversation with his dad and walked towards them.

"Cass? What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I may have convinced my mom to take me with her," she replied, before looking at Noah. "Did you find her yet? Lydia?"

"No," he sighed. "Sorry kid."

She nodded. "Just..." she trailed off when she saw a strawberry-blonde figure in the distance. "Lydia?"

She was shaking and shivering from the cold. Cassie noticed and took off her black sweater while walking towards her. It was a thin sweater, but it was still a sweater. She wrapped the sweater around Lydia's shoulders and tucked her in.

"Aren't you gonna be cold?" Lydia asked, eyeing the thin straps on Cassie's pajama shirt.

She smiled softly at the girl's concern. "No, I'll be fine." She picked off some of the leaves in Lydia's hair before guiding her slowly to Noah.

She pushed her gently to Noah, who was taking off his jacket to cover her up more. Lydia looked back at Cassie and mouthed the words "thank you" to her. Cassie smiled at her sweetly and nodded. She turned back to Stiles as she let out a shaky breath, already cold from the weather.

Damn it Cassie, pull yourself together.

"Are you cold?" Stiles asked, taking off his flannel.

"No, I'm fine. Seriously Stiles."

He looked at her before wrapping her in his flannel. "I meant what I said at the formal. I know you're not fine even when you pretend you are, so don't even try to lie to me."

She blushed slightly at his words and him willingly giving her his flannel. He noticed the blush on her cheeks and let out a small smile.

"Thank you."

He smiled softly at her and nodded.
