Cassandra Williams was just unpacking the rest of her boxes when she heard her step mom knock on her bedroom door.

"Cassie, I'm going to work okay? There's money on the table for pizza if you and Emily are hungry," Vanessa said.

Vanessa was Cassie's step mom. About two years after her biological mom committed suicide, her dad remarried and brought Vanessa as well as her daughter, Emily, in the Williams family.

"Why are you going to work this late?"

"You really wanna know?" Cassie nodded. "All right, but don't tell anyone or do anything reckless. Apparently, some hikers found a body, but it was only half of the body."

"Which half?"

"I don't know, I think the bottom? Anyways, now the sheriff wants us to find the other half of the body tonight so I'm going in the woods with the rest of the deputies."

"Can I come?"

"Nice try sweetheart," she replied. "I'll see you tomorrow 'kay?"

"Okay, love you mom."

"Love you too sweetie."

As soon as Vanessa left the room, Cassie rushed to her closet and changed in sweatpants and a hoodie. She grabbed her black, mini backpack and packed two mini flashlights, extra batteries, pepper spray, a taser, and a hair tie. After she packed everything, she slipped on her black adidas and snuck out the window. She was on the roof before she slowly dropped down to the railing on her porch. When she was on the ground, she got on her purple colored bike and biked to the woods.

She parked her bike near a baby blue Jeep and began walking.

She saw two sets of fresh footprints and followed them. The more footprints she followed, she could hear faint voices of two boys.

"Hey, that's the spirit. Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically, unrealistic one," one boy said.

"Just out of curiosity, which half of the body are we looking for?" the other boy asked.

"Huh, I didn't even think about that."

"It's the upper half," Cassie replied.

Both boys jumped while letting out a small, but loud, scream and looked behind them to see a black haired girl crossing her arms.

"Who the fuck are you," the boy with the buzz cut asked with his hand on his chest, trying to slow down his heartbeat.

"Cassandra, Cassandra Williams. Everyone I know just calls me Cassie."

"And why are you out in the middle of the woods?"

"Same reason as you, looking for the upper half of the body."

"Oh okay, a bit terrifying but okay."

She half smiled at them sarcastically and moved past them.

"Hey wait, don't you want to stick together?" The longer haired boy asked.

"Sure I guess, you guys look like you need the extra muscle anyways."

There was a short pause of just twigs snapping and leaves crunching before the longer haired boy decided to speak up.

"What if whoever killed the body is still out here?"

"Also something I didn't think about," the buzz cut replied before climbing onto the steep hill right behind Cassie.

"It's comforting to know you've planned this out with your usually attention to detail," the other boy panted.

"I know."

"Maybe the, uh, severe asthmatic should be the one holding the flashlight."

Cassie stopped and got out the extra flashlight in her bag. "Here."

"Thanks." She half smiled at him again to represent a 'your welcome' and continued to follow the buzz cut boy.

Suddenly the buzz cut boy dropped down to the floor with the longer haired boy following. Instead of throwing herself on the floor like the boys, she did it slowly to not hurt herself.

They all waited a moment of just spying before the buzz cut boy got up and ran.

"Hey come on!"

"Stiles!" the longer haired boy called out before Cassie got up as well and started running after the buzz cut boy who she assumed was Stiles. "Wait up! Stiles!"

They all continued running through the woods, avoiding the other people with flashlights with Stiles up front, Cassie just behind Stiles, and the long haired boy way behind.

"Stiles!" he called out again.

Both Stiles and Cassie slowed down and looked behind them only to be caught by a large dog barking at them.

Stiles collapsed on the ground while yelling while Cassie just stood there unamused.

"Hold it right there!" The man in front of them yelled.

"Hang on, hang on," another man interrupted. "This little delinquent belongs to me."

The man walked up to Stiles and Cassie, flashing his flashlight at Stiles' face.

"Dad, how are you doing?"

"So, do you, uh, listen in to all of my phone calls?"

"No, well not the boring ones."

He looked around to see Cassie walking up to them awkwardly while smiling politely at the sheriff.

"Hey there sheriff," she greeted awkwardly.

"Hey, Williams' kid right?"

"Yep, pleasure to meet you sir," she said, holding out her hand for him to shake it.

"Pleasure to meet you too kid," he said as he shook her hand. "Now, where's your usual partner in crime? Aside from her."

"Who, Scott? Scott's at home, said he wanted to get a good night's sleep for the first day back at school tomorrow. It's just us, in the woods, alone." The sheriff raised his eyebrow at his son and flickered his eyes to Cassie and Stiles back and forth. "No! No! Not like that!"

He sighed, not believing a word that came out of Stiles' mouth. "Scott, you out there?" No response. "Scott?" Silence. He sighed again. "Well kiddos, I'm gonna walk you guys to Stiles' car and Stiles and I will have a little conversation about something called invasion of privacy," he said, before dragging Stiles by his ear with Cassie silently following behind.

Once they got to Stiles' car, the sheriff gave him a lecture about "invasion of privacy" and walked back to the woods.

"Oh, so this is your car. It's nice," she complimented.

"Thanks, that's your bike?" She nodded. "I can give you a ride home if you'd like."

"It's fine, I don't want to be a bother so I'll just bike home."

"Seriously Cass, it's gonna start raining soon. Let me drive you home."

"Hmm, mysterious stranger wants to drive a pretty fifteen year old girl home. Thanks for the offer but no thanks," she replied before getting on her bike and biking away the opposite direction.

He sighed in defeat and got inside his car.
