Cassie stared at her phone that was on her dresser while bouncing her leg up and down. Em decided that she wanted to go to a friend's house for the night, so Cassie was home alone, again. She reached out for her phone but stopped herself.
"No, Cassie. You... you can't involved in this supernatural drama anymore, even if you are a witch." She continued to stare at her phone, rethinking her decision. "You know what? On second thought, just because he's my ex doesn't mean I can't help find him."
As if someone were listening to her conversation with herself, her phone started ringing right on cue. She picked up her phone and saw that the caller ID was Stiles. She quickly accepted the call.
"Stiles, hey. Are you okay?"
"Not Stiles, his dad," Noah said on the other line. "I didn't have your number, so I just took Stiles' phone."
"Oh, um, Mr. Stilinski. Is he safe? Is he okay?"
"Yeah, he's fine. He's actually back home now. Listen, I'd really appreciate it if you'd come down here. I think he really needs you right now."
"Oh! Yes, yes. I am on my way."
"Great, uh, see you then."
They hung up the phone and Cassie quickly grabbed her house keys and sprinted outside to her front yard and grabbed her bike.
--
There was a knock on Stiles' bedroom door.
"Dad, I said I'm fine," Stiles mumbled.
When there was another knock on the door, Stiles took a deep breath and got up from his bed. He opened the door and saw Cassie standing there, ready to knock on the door again.
"Cass, hey," he said, leaning on his door.
"Hi. Yeah, you're, um, dad let me in. What happened to your face?"
"Oh, I was just born this attractive."
"Not that, you know what I mean."
"Oh, uh, it's nothing. I'm fine." He paused just to admire her face for a few seconds. "Hey, do you want to come in?"
She nodded and awkwardly walked past him. She sat on the edge of his bed, and he sat next to her. She looked around his room, examining every detail of it.
"So, how've you been since the whole..."
"Fine, I guess. You?"
"Fine, I guess."
She nodded at his response. The two continued to sit in an awkward silence before it was cut off by Stiles' phone buzzing. The phone was next to Cassie, so she picked it up and caught a glimpse at it.
"You have seventeen missed messages from Scott," she said, handing him the phone.
"I know," he replied, taking the phone from her hands.
"What. Are you ignoring him or something?"
"No. No, not really."
Cassie spotted multiple small, black, velvet boxes on his dresser. She got up from the bed and walked towards it.
"What are these?"
"Oh." He stood up from the bed. "Uh, nothing. It's just some stuff that I bought; you know? For your birthday."
"My birthday already passed though."
"Oh, no, yeah, I know. I just meant your next birthday."
She picked up one of the boxes and saw a gold-colored band with a small purple stone on it with rhinestones on either side of it.
