Author's POV:Somewhere in the sprawling city of Seoul, nestled within the grandeur of a magnificent mansion, a brunette stood in the corner of his room. His handsome features were etched in concentration as he held a paintbrush, the tip gliding expertly across the canvas, weaving colors into a mesmerizing tapestry.
Jeon Jungkook, the youngest son of Jeon Hyun, the most successful businessman in not just Seoul but all of South Korea, was completely engrossed in his painting. His front teeth peeked out from his parted rosy lips, a sign of his deep focus and dedication.
"Jungkookie!" His mother's voice resonated from the doorway of his room.
"Yesss, Mom, just give me a minute," he replied, his tone distracted but affectionate.
"This boy never listens to me," Jeon Aerum muttered as she stepped into the room, her eyes taking in the clutter. She moved gracefully around, picking up clothes from a chair and tidying the bed. Eventually, she halted beside her son, her gaze falling on his latest masterpiece.
"Wow, really beautiful, Kook," she said, patting him on the shoulder appreciatively.A bunny-like smile, so similar to her own, bloomed on Jungkook's lips at the praise. "Thank you very much, Mom. Actually, see here, these are daffodils, but not the usual ones. I made them like—"Jungkook loved to ramble about his paintings, his passion evident in every word. But Aerum, overwhelmed with her own tasks, gently placed a finger over his lips, causing him to pout.
"Not today, Kook-ah. I have so much work," she said, exasperated, turning to leave when Jungkook called her back."Why were you calling me, though?" he asked, his attention still on the painting, giving it the final touches.
"Ahh I completely forgot" she smacked her own forehead lightly, "Your Dad wants to talk to you about something," she said, a note of seriousness in her voice. "I bet it's something really important."
Jungkook's demeanor shifted instantly. He placed the paintbrush on the table and wiped his hands with a napkin before turning to face his mother. "Do you know what it is?" he asked, worry lacing his voice.
"Obviously not," she shrugged, gesturing toward the painting. "Come downstairs when you're done. Your Dad is waiting for you."
"Okay," Jungkook replied in a small voice, already dreading what his father might say—or more likely, order—because what his father said was final. No one had the authority to deny it.
Aerum sighed and took his hand. "It's okay, bun. He's your father. Why do you avoid him so much?"
Jungkook scoffed. "Mom, you say that as if you don't know. Whenever I go in front of him, he finds a hundred things to criticize me for, for no reason at all. From how incapable, childish, and irresponsible I am, to the way I handle my life. He has a problem with literally everything I do. Is it my fault that hyung pursued his dream? He wanted to become an idol, and he became one. So why do I have to deal with all this business stuff, which I have zero interest in?" His voice wavered, on the verge of tears, as Aerum pulled him into a comforting hug."Oh, Kook," she murmured, running her hand soothingly over his back.
"I want to become a painter, Mom. It's my passion." He closed his eyes and buried his face in his mother's embrace, seeking solace from the storm brewing downstairs.
After all, nothing good could be expected from that man.
___________
On the other side of Seoul, the young CEO of Kim Enterprises sat in his office chair, exuding an aura of authority and elegance. Yet, a deep frown marred his otherwise handsome face.
"Hyung, why would Mr. Jeon propose that deal in the first place?" Taehyung asked, skepticism dripping from his voice. "He's one hell of a greedy man. I'm telling you, he wants nothing but to gain control over my company through this deal."
"Son-in-law or not, Tae, this company is yours. He can never take it from you. We just need his help, and to get it, we must agree to his deal," Kim Seokjin, Taehyung's secretary, and cousin, replied calmly.
"I don't know how I feel about this, hyung. A goddamn marriage? Seriously?" Taehyung threw his hands in the air, a humorless chuckle escaping his lips. "I have to live under the same roof with some stranger. Fucking great! God knows what his son is like. Most probably like him: greedy and self-centered." He leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples in frustration."I'm so confused, hyung. I have just three days to decide, and if I don't sign the contract after that, he won't help our company. You know we desperately need financial support," he said, his voice softening, a hint of vulnerability peeking through his tough exterior.
Jin walked over and rubbed his cousin's forehead affectionately. "The Tae I know wouldn't be afraid to take any step for his company, no matter how hard it is. He wouldn't hesitate a bit."
Tae looked up and smiled at his hyung. After his parents' passing, Jimin and Jin were the only constants in his life. While the outside world saw him as a cold and arrogant CEO, his hyungs knew the real Taehyung, the one who had struggled immensely.Living without a mother was hard enough, but losing his father in a car accident had been devastating. With no siblings, Taehyung had to shoulder the responsibility of the company at a young age. As soon as he took over, the company's progress started deteriorating. Employees were uncooperative, and Mr. Kim's death had dealt a severe blow to the company and its clients.Despite Taehyung's exceptional abilities as a businessman, the odds were not in his favor. Until yesterday, when Mr. Jeon himself offered his support to Kim Enterprises, a suspicious move given his reputation.
The reason became clear today: Jeon Hyun wanted Taehyung to marry his son, Jeon Jungkook, in exchange for the shares. To the outside world, it would appear as a normal marriage, but in reality, it was a business deal between two powerful companies.
Taehyung didn't understand how this marriage would benefit Jeon Hyun, but there was only one way to find out: to accept the deal. And that was exactly what he intended to do.But a little condition on his part wouldn't hurt, right?
________
"Mr. Jeon, I am ready to accept your proposal, but..."
"But?" Jeon Hyun raised an eyebrow.
"I want our deal to last one year only."
