Chapter 8
The same day, 7:29 pm
At the mall
Katie's POV
I'm not really sure what to do now. Dad's here, and he's pissed. I'm scared, but not scared enough to run. Running would be a bad idea anyway. Dad's fast. He'd catch me. Definitely. But what else am I supposed to do? Just stand here, staring at him like a deer in headlights?
Dad: That's exactly what I said when I went to check on you, just to find out that you weren't home. "Son of a bitch". Sneaking out? Seriously, Katelyn? Seriously?
Oh yeah. He's pissed. Really pissed.
Katie: Daddy-
Dad: Don't. Come on.
Before I can say anything, he's grabbing me by the ear and taking me out of the mall.
Bailey: Uh, bye, Katie.
Katie: Bye, Bailey.
This is so embarrassing. My best friend just saw me get pulled out of the mall by my ear. My fucking ear. Dad takes me outside, to the truck, and makes me get in the passenger's seat. He gets in the driver's seat and without saying anything, he starts driving.
Katie: Dad?
Dad: Do you have any idea how much trouble you're in? Or how pissed I am? Why the hell would you sneak out, Katie? I say no, one time. One. And you take it upon yourself to sneak out? You couldn't have just stayed home and found something else to do? You could've watched TV, played video games, read a book, gone outside. You could've seen if Dean wanted to do something with you. You know he'd have loved to do something with you. Either of us would have loved to do something with you, if you had just asked. But instead of doing something at home, you chose to sneak out. You just couldn't take the no. Could you?
Katie: I really wanted to go, and you said-
Dad: No. I said no. That's the answer I gave you, and that's the answer you should've stuck with. "I really wanted to go" is your reason for sneaking out? Really?
He's never lectured me this angrily before. He's lectured me pretty angrily, but never this angrily. I don't think I've ever made him this mad before. And trust me, I've made him pretty mad.
Katie: I'm sorry-
Dad: If you were sorry, you wouldn't have snuck out. You don't get to do things like this, and then just "I'm sorry" your way out of them. You can "I'm sorry" your way out of a lot of things, Katie. But this isn't one of those things.
Katie: But I'm sorry, Dad.
Dad: That doesn't matter. You snuck out. I'm not just gonna let that slide, because you're sorry. When we get home, you're gonna go wait for me in your room. You're grounded. Two weeks. I'm taking your phone. You're not going anywhere for the next two weeks unless it's school, or you're with me or Dean. You're not watching TV or playing video games until your grounding's over.
