Chapter 48

Sunday, 5:32 pm

In the bunker

Katie's POV

Dad left for his hunt, around 3:30. Now it's just me and Uncle Dean. I like hanging out with Uncle Dean, but I still wish Dad would've taken me with him. He's gonna be gone for 3 days, and I'm gonna miss him. I've rarely ever had to spend time away from him since...well since I was born. Dad's always here, and now he's not. I'm not sure what to do with myself. I'm laying in Dad's bed, because his room smells like him and I'm comfortable here. I think Uncle Dean's in the living room. That's where he was when I decided to come to Dad's room.

Uncle Dean: Katie. He calls from the living room.

I don't really feel like leaving Dad's room, but Uncle Dean's gonna be upset if he has to come looking for me. I get out of bed and leave the room. I go to the living room and find Uncle Dean, putting his shoes on. Where's he going? I didn't think we were leaving the house today.

Katie: Where are you going?

Uncle Dean: We're gonna go get dinner.

Katie: I thought you put a pizza in the oven.

Uncle Dean: I uh, I burned it...so we're gonna go get pizza from the place down the road.

I thought I smelled something burning, but I didn't wanna assume that Uncle Dean burned our dinner.

Katie: Oh, ok.

Uncle Dean: Get your shoes.

I nod and get my shoes. I put them on, then I follow Uncle Dean out to the car. We both get in and he starts driving us to the pizza place. I'm looking out the window, because I don't feel like talking. It looks like it's gonna rain. I hope it's not a thunder storm. I don't like thunder. Usually, when there's a thunder storm, I hang out with Dad until it's over. But Dad's not here, so I'd just be in his room, hiding under his blanket. I have Uncle Dean, but I find Dad more comforting.

Katie: Do you think it's gonna be a thunder storm?

Uncle Dean: If it is, you can stay with me until it's over. I know I'm not your Dad, but I can still try to comfort you.

Katie: Ok.

When we get to the pizza place, we get our order, and then start heading back home.

Uncle Dean: You've been real quiet since your Dad left. You ok?

Katie: I miss him.
