Chapter 19

The same day, 11:30 pm

In the bunker

Dean's POV

I'm in the living room, watching TV and drinking a beer. I picked Katie up from the movie theater, a few hours ago, and she's been in her room since she got back. Well, she's come out a few times, but she's mainly been in her room. By now, she might be asleep. I should go check on her. I take a sip of my beer before getting off the couch and leaving the room. Now I'm heading to Katie's room. Once there, I find her sitting on her bed and playing a game on her phone. I really thought she'd be asleep. She never makes it passed 11. It's 11:30, right now, and she's wide awake.

Dean: Munckin.

She jumps in surprise, probably having not realized that I was here.

Katie: Um, hi, Uncle Bean.

Dean: Hi, Sweetheart. What are you still doing up?

Katie: Waiting for Daddy.

Dean: He might not be back tonight.

Katie: I wanna wait for him to come back.

She's rarely ever spent time away from Sam. He told her about his date, but I don't think he thought about how she gets when he's not around. She gets anxious and all she wants is him. She gets more anxious than I've ever seen her. And she gets like that, because Sam's never not around. Katie's never had to spend more than a few hours away from her Dad. I think the first few hours were fine, but only because she was at a movie with her friend. She had a distraction. But now, she's at home, in her room, and all she can think about is when Sam's gonna be home.

Dean: You can't force yourself to stay awake. You-

Katie: Yes, I can.

Dean: No. Sweetheart, you need sleep.

Katie: I can sleep when Dad gets home. It's Friday anyway. I can stay up, if I want to.

Dean: Not if you're already getting grumpy, because you're tired.

She's not gonna wanna go to bed, right now. But she's obviously tired, and she needs sleep. But she's not gonna go to bed, willingly, until Sam gets home.

Katie: I'm not going to bed. And you can't make me.

Dean: I'm not in the mood to argue. Why don't you come watch TV with me? Instead of sitting by yourself, in the dark?

Katie: Are you gonna make me go to sleep?

Yes. But I'm not gonna tell you that, because then you wouldn't come with me.

Dean: No. We're just gonna watch TV. But if you fall asleep, I'm gonna let you be. Ok?

Katie: But what if Daddy gets back-
