The darkness slowly lifts from my eyes, leaving only nausea and dizziness.
Light floods my eyes, but I quickly close them. The only thing keeping me upright is Everett's strong arm around my waist.
I know that vampires can teleport, it's called shifting. And that they can take people with them when they do it. But I have never experienced it before, and I'm not eager to do it again.
"I'm sorry. It's always pretty rough the first few times. But you'll get used to it eventually." Everett tells me, and I can feel his other arm come around me and start rubbing circles on my back.
I want to tell him that I won't need to get used to it because I won't be sticking around, but I am afraid that if I open my mouth I will hurl. So, I keep my mouth tightly shut and try to take deep breaths through my nose instead.
After a few moments, the nausea and dizziness start to subside so I slowly open my eyes. I feel more stable now, so I step back, out of Everett's arms. He lets me go without saying anything.
I look around the room we are now standing in. It looks like the entryway to a house. There is a staircase to my left, leading up to the second floor. And an archway behind Everett that looks like it leads to a living room.
The place looks like an old manor house, but it's nice. Well-kept.
Devlin and Aizen suddenly appear to the right of me. Devlin drops his hand from Aizen's shoulder and takes a step away from him. Demons can shift as well, so Devlin must have brought Aizen with him. And they are now standing right in front of a door that clearly leads outside.
Shit. I should have taken the chance to try and get away. I could have frozen Everett and Keaton and just walked out the door before Devlin and Aizen got here. But I was too distracted by the sensation of shifting and suddenly being in a completely different place.
Of course, I realize that I have no idea where I am now. I could be in a different city, a different country. But I will just have to figure it out once I get out of here. My number one priority should still be getting away from them.
"How about you set your bag down here? And then we can go to the kitchen so I can make you something to eat."
I give Everett a confused look and then ask, "You can cook?"
Vampires don't need any sustenance except for blood, so it surprises me that he is offering to cook.
"Yes, it's a hobby of mine. The guys are all terrible cooks, so I make all their meals for them." Everett replies with a smile.
"Hey! That's not true. I make a mean bowl of cereal." Keaton says and gives Everett a playful shove.
Everett just rolls his eyes and chuckles. And I can see Aizen and Devlin shaking their heads from the corner of my eye.
God, this is so weird. Do they live here together? They all seem to be friends, and Everett made it sound like they did. I have never heard of a group of supernaturals living together like this. They usually live with others of their species, especially werewolves. Does Keaton not belong to a pack then?
This is all too much to think about right now, and why do I care anyway?
I don't. I just need to get out of here.
"Willow?" Keaton takes a step toward me.
They are all looking at me, waiting for me to set my bag down and follow them to the kitchen.
I think about it for a moment, and then slip the strap of my bag over my head and set it down on the ground at my feet.
I'm in no condition to escape right now. I need food and water, at the very least. And if they're offering to feed me then I should take them up on that. I need to build my strength back up.
