| CHAPTER VI |

Louis was going on a trip that Monday and the plan was that we would drive together to Liverpool, the place where we would meet his best friend Billy. Who might also be our witness.

I already knew him and knew that Louis would never get married without his presence, so I would make it a point to pick him up and even spend a few days in the city where he worked.

But I woke up late that day and before I hurried to dress myself, Louis stopped me.

"I'll go alone." said the moment he came into the closet.

I got confused and then I followed him to the bathroom, looking for explanations for the sudden change in plans.

"What are you talking about? That wasn't the plan!"

"I know. But I'm a little tired of our recent discussions and I think we need some time to breathe and recharge our energy."

He fixed his hair in front of the mirror, being convinced that this was the best thing to do. In the end, he was right, but I hated the fact that things always end like this.

"Okay, so… Enjoy your trip." I wished from the time I started brushing my teeth.

I had three months off for my wedding and honeymoon. I had about ninety days left to be with my husband, but already in the first days we had fought at least four times and now he would be going to another city without me. And even though I was upset, I complied with his decision and let him go.

Louis said goodbye to me on the way to the airport. And I didn't know what I was going to do next, so I wouldn't feel comfortable staying at the family home without him.

That morning, the place was empty. The children at school and the rest of the relatives had already gone to their respective homes, except for a few who still lived on Mr. Bower's house. One of them was Joseph, Louis' cousin.

When I sat down at the table with Joseph, I also saw the maids. They were all back at work, including the young man beside me who was negotiating the sale of a property with somebody on the phone. I said hello to everyone, trying my best to hide my bad mood.

While I ate, I tried to plan what my lonely Monday would be like. I would certainly go back to my apartment and stay there until Louis returned from his trip in five days, or just go back to work.

Maybe that was a good idea.

When I finished my coffee, I took what I was supposed to take home and left, driving directly to the company building where Liam was, probably not waiting for my visit.
