| CHAPTER XXXIX |
100 million. That is how much I would have to pay as a result of my father's lawsuit. He did this to punish me for what I had done to the company and my former marriage. For Mr. Malik, losing $100 million was like a punishment, but he forgot I wasn't a money maniac. Thank God I didn't have that part of his genetics.
I looked at my lawyer who was next to me at the court table and did a handshake. I expressed my gratitude for his service and accepted the promise that I would never return to that place. It was probable that I would never see my father again, as he was now a dead man to me.
When I left the courtroom, I started removing my tie. I walked a short distance to a water machine and purchased a bottle of water. My body was so used to being relaxed, that dealing with a turbulent time like this caused me a strange feeling.
I longed for Harry's presence, to hug me and say that everything would be okay because I knew it would be. But he couldn't be there.
After taking another sip of my water, I removed my cell phone from my pocket to read the message he had sent me. Was his mother's home address, his real location at that time. The address was a coincidence because it was the same street where my mother's grave was located.
The memory of her made me feel a lump in my throat. For a while I felt really bad about not bringing flowers to her grave, because it was extremely difficult to step on that ground and know that her body was slowly decomposing beneath my feet.
I decided I had to go, so I sent a message to Harry. Once I started getting out of the courtroom, I heard someone calling me. My father was there.
I stopped by my car and watched him get closer. He had a smile on his lips, which made me certain that he was happy.
"Are you going?" He asked when he stopped in front of me.
"Did you think I would stay here? I just want to leave really fast, but you're wasting my time."
Maybe I was being rude, but he deserved it.
"What I have to say is brief. I just..." he put his hands on his waist and looked down, as if searching for courage. "I wanted to apologize for everything. I know I wasn't a good father."
"I'm glad you know." I laughed for a moment.
"You deserved a better father, someone as good as your mother. But anyway, I want you to know that it's hard for me to deal with change and you've changed a lot!"
"Yes, Dad. I have changed. I am much better now. I'm happy, I thought that was something important to you."
"It's important, and I'm glad to hear that you're happy and have found someone nice. You deserve it! I feel proud, and your mom feels the same way."
I took a deep breath and turned my head to look the other way.
"Do you think she would be proud?" I asked.
