Chapter 53

Heidi was sound asleep in Steve's arms when she heard a commotion followed by a scream, they both shot up in bed.

"I'll go check on him, go back to sleep honey." Heidi said, lightly touching Steve's face. He hopped up and pulled Heidi out of bed before stealing a kiss and laying back down. "Yell for me if you need anything." Steve insisted.

"I will, go back to sleep. I love you." Heidi said with a smile as she waddled out of the bedroom.

She had on one of Steve's oversized shirts and a pair of short cotton shorts. She quietly walked across the penthouse until she reached Bucky's door and gave it a light knock.

"You can come in." Bucky said with a sigh, Heidi opened the door to see Bucky laying on the floor with his pillow and blanket.

"Are you okay?" She asked sweetly, standing over him with a hand on her stomach. Bucky nodded and gave a fake smile. "I'm fine, sorry I woke you." He lied.

"Come on, let's go back to bed." Heidi offered, extending her hand to him. Bucky shook his head no, "I'm comfortable down here. Go back to bed." Bucky said. Heidi walked across to the other side of the room, grabbing the spare pillow before tossing it on the floor next to him.

"You're going to have to help me get off the floor in the morning." Heidi said as she came back around to the other side. "What are you doing?" Bucky asked.

"Joining you, nightmares aren't so bad when you're not sleeping alone." Heidi said with a sleepy smile.

"You don't have to do that, go back to bed." Bucky protested. But Heidi started to get on the floor when Bucky stopped her. "Fine, I'll sleep in bed." He said with a small sigh as he hopped up and threw both pillows onto the bed. Heidi waited patiently while Bucky climbed in bed, her getting in beside him and quickly throwing the blanket over her as Bucky did the same.

"Are you this argumentative with everyone?" Bucky asked as he rolled onto his side to face Heidi. Heidi chuckled and shrugged, opening up her arms for him. "Yes. Come here." She insisted.

"I am not sleeping on my best friends wife." Bucky protested, rolling to lay flat on his back. Heidi climbed over to him, grabbing his metal arm and wrapping it around her shoulders before laying her head on his chest. Her bump was pressed up against his side.

"I'm not going to boss you around, you're your own person with your own mind. I just know this will help you sleep. But if you're against it, I will leave." Heidi said as she snuggled into him. Bucky's lack of an answer told her he didn't object, he was just hesitant, so she easily fell back to sleep on him. Bucky laid there nervously for a while before finally dozing off.

The sun shining in on Heidi's face woke her up, she sleepily opened her eyes to see Steve standing over the bed. He was watching Heidi sleep, firmly under Bucky's grip. "We're you right? Did he sleep okay after you came in?" Steve asked with a small smile.

"I think so." Heidi whispered, returning a smile to Steve. Bucky stirred lightly and finally opened his eyes, when he saw Steve he quickly pulled his arm out from under Heidi.

"I'm sorry, man, she climbed in here.." Bucky reassured him, but Steve laughed.

"I know. She told me yesterday after dinner she thought you'd sleep better if you weren't alone. Did you?" Steve asked. Bucky nodded and sat up, pulling the blanket over his bare chest. "I did, actually." He admitted.

Steve helped Heidi sit on the edge of the bed, pulling her to stand up but stealing a kiss. Heidi smacked his butt as she retreated down the penthouse to get dressed.

"You're not mad?" Bucky asked once the men were alone.

"No, she just wants to help you." Steve said with a shrug.
