Heidi had woken up to the sun shining in on her face, surprised that the sun was already up but that she hadn't been woken up by Dustin's cry. It had been several weeks since their date night, the exhaustion slowly crept up on her again. Their routine had stayed the same, Heidi and Steve went to bed together. Steve woke up during the night with Dustin while Heidi woke up early with him. But today, she opened her eyes to an empty bed and Dustin wasn't in his bassinet.
Heidi sighed lightly, climbing out of bed. She quickly threw on a pair of shorts, not bothering to change out of Steve's shirt that she was wearing. She made her way through the penthouse, just checking if Steve and Dustin were in Dustin's room, but they weren't. So she made her way to the common room. She saw Nat and Clint coming back from training, but no Steve.
"Good morning, sleepy head." Nat teased. She wanted to hug Heidi, but her morning training with Clint had her covered in sweat.
Heidi let out a quiet laugh. "I didn't even realize I overslept. Have you seen Steve? He wasn't in bed when I woke up." She said.
Thor came walking into the common room, pulling Heidi into a hug before she even registered that he was home. "Surprised?" He asked.
It took a moment of realization that Thor was there before Heidi reacted. When she did, she squealed happily and hugged into him, her arms tightly around his torso. "Yes!" She said happily. When he had broken the hug, Heidi kept her arms around him but stared up at him with an enthusiastic smile.
"I was told you're awake with the sun, but I've been here for hours." Thor admitted.
"I usually do. Steve must have snuck out with Dustin. I haven't seen him yet today." Heidi admitted. She look to Clint and Nat for an answer on where her husband was, but she trusted him. She did, however, intend to scold him for waking up early with Dustin after being up and down with him throughout the night.
"He and Dustin are in the theater with the guys." Nat answered. Heidi nodded in appreciation.
Heidi took Thor's hand as she made her way through the compound, smiling when she reached the theater. Peter was very timidly holding Dustin, looking terrified while doing so. Peter's eyes kept shifting between Dustin and Steve, almost as if he was scared of Steve's reaction if he did something wrong.
"You're scaring him, honey." Heidi said out loud. Everyone in the room turned to look at her and Thor. Heidi moved around to sit next to Steve, Peter on the other side of her.
"How long are you home for this time, point break?" Tony asked.
"A week, hopefully longer, but things have been hectic at home." Thor explained.
Heidi focused her attention on Peter and Dustin, seeing how scared the young boy was. "What is scaring you, dear?" She asked.
Peter met her gaze, trying his best to put on a smile. "Nothing, Mrs. Rogers. I'm sorry." He said hesitantly.
Heidi put her hand onto his, her thumb lightly stroking the skin. "You won't hurt him, he's not as fragile as you think." She promised. She continued to talk to him reassuringly until she saw Peter relax more, seeming to be more comfortable holding him. That's when she peeled her focus to Steve. "Why didn't you wake me, honey?" She asked.
Steve pulled Heidi to lean against him, wrapping his arm around her waist. "You just looked so tired, and you looked so beautiful asleep. I just wanted you to sleep a little longer." He said casually.
Heidi slapped his thigh lightly, trying her best to scold him, but she couldn't. He was being so thoughtful, putting her before himself. She wanted to melt into him right there. "You need sleep, too." She protested.
