Steve held the door open for Heidi again, shutting it behind her before heading to the driver's seat.
"That guys an asshole" Heidi blurted out as soon as Steve got in the car.
Steve had to stop himself from telling her not to cuss. "What did he do?" He said with a sigh as they drove away from the compound.
"He tried to kick me out" she said in a huff. "He assumed I was some one night stand of his and told me to leave, he probably would've dragged me out if you hadn't shown up."
"I'll deal with him" Steve said coldly. He reached his hand over and took her hand. "I'm sorry about him, Tony is an idiot"
"It's fine, if he wasn't an Avenger I probably would've punched him" Heidi said with a snicker.
"I would've loved to see that." Steve said with a smile.
The two drove to her house, Steve hopped out to walk her to her door but before he could say goodnight she opened the door and reached in, grabbing a set of keys from the hook on the door before shutting the door behind and locking it again, leaving her on the porch with Steve.
"Going somewhere?" He joked, finally a joke.
Heidi sighed heavily "I have to drive to a franchise 2 hours away"
"It's past midnight. Should you really be driving? Didn't you work all day?" Steve asked, he sounded worried.
"3 to 7" she said, fighting back a yawn.
"AM to PM?" He asked.
"Yes, normally I work 5AM to 9PM but I got up a little earlier for our date" she admitted.
Steve stepped towards her, lightly wrapping his arms around her waist and staring down at her.
"Let me take you, so I know you make it back okay" Steve suggested. "I don't want you driving, you'd be up for over 24 hours by the time you get home"
"And what about you? Have you not been up all day?" Heidi would love to have Steve accompany her but didn't want to ask.
"I'm fine, please, I insist" Steve said, his grip tightening around her. Heidi smiled up at him and felt her cheeks flush.
"I would love the company" she admitted shyly.
Steve leaned down and finally placed his lips against hers, his lips were soft and the kiss was gentle. She melted in his arms. When he pulled away Heidi's entire face was flushed and she rested her hands flat on his chest.
"Then I'd love to accompany you" Steve admitted. The two stood embraced for a few minutes, until Heidi finally lost the battle not to yawn.
"Are you sure this can't wait until morning?" Steve said when he saw her yawn. Heidi put her hand over her mouth to hide another.
"I can't, if I don't have the syrups there by opening I'm gonna hear it from every customer and barista there" she said with a sigh.
"I don't exactly have the luxury of turning off my phone" she admitted.
Steve smiled down at her and released his grip on her, taking her hand and leading her back to his car. "It's okay, I don't either."
Heidi put the address into his GPS but fell asleep shortly into the drive. Steve didn't mind, he simply smiled when he saw her asleep and rested his hand on her thigh while he drove.
Heidi woke up to Steve gently tapping her thigh. "I didn't wanna wake you but were here" he said in a hushed tone.
Heidi groaned and grabbed the door handle, Steve quickly reached across her and shut the door. He got out and rushed around, opening her door for her before he chauffeured her into the Starbucks. The store was closed, it was only 2:20AM so the entire store was pitch black. She ran to the back and grabbed a case of the syrup she needed.
"Allow me to carry that." Steve insisted as he took the case from her so she could lock up. He opened her door for her again and loaded the syrups into his trunk before heading to the next store she programmed into the GPS. It was 2 hours away from this store but another 2 hours from home.
Heidi stayed awake this time though, Steve told her about his time in the 40s and the adjustment into today's world.
When they reached this store it was lit up, they opened in 15 minutes. Heidi let herself in with her keys while Steve carried the case of syrup.
As soon as they entered the store they heard a mixture of shock and fear. Fear seeing their boss walk in on them and shock seeing Captian America trailing behind her.
"Would you like a cup of coffee? They open soon so it should be ready" Heidi offered.
"I would love one, actually." Steve said with a smile.
The barista that made Steve's coffee was shaking when she handed it to him "Here you go Mr. America? Captian?" She sounded terrified. Steve just smiled and took the coffee "Steve" he corrected as he put a couple dollars in the tip cup.
"I want the display cups out before opening" Heidi said as she walked around and took a quick look around the store, Steve following her every step.
"Yes, Ms. Shaw, right away" the barista said, rushing to the back to grab the cups she needed to sit out.
"Ready to go?" Steve said sweetly, placing his hand on her lower back. Heidi yawned again and nodded, letting Steve guide her out of the store. Steve could hear the workers gossiping about her boss and Captian America, super soldier hearing, he just chuckled to himself.
Heidi stayed awake for most of the drive back, talking about everything and nothing. Heidi also put a Playlist of music on his phone that she insisted was important.
But about 30 minutes before home Heidi was passed out in the front seat again, he couldn't help but watch her. She looked so peaceful, she must have been exhausted.
Steve's phone rang and he rushed to pick it up on the first ring, hoping it didn't wake Heidi. "Capsicle, get here, now" Tony said as soon as Steve answered.
"Can it wait, Stark? I'm with Heidi" he said in a hushed tone.
"Oh I don't know, Rogers, let me ask. Fury, can this wait?" Tony said.
"I'm on the way" Steve said without waiting for any answer from Fury, if he was there it couldn't wait. You don't make Nick Fury wait, ever.
Steve sighed, should he take her home? Or to the compound? He didn't feel right letting himself into her house. So he settled for the compound.
When he arrived at the compound he sat in his parking spot for a moment, debating if he should wake her up or not. He decided she looked too peaceful and he knew she was exhausted so he carried her inside and up to his room, laying her softly on his bed. He covered her up and left a note on the pillow next to her in case he woke up while he was with Fury.
--
Heidi woke up to her phone ringing, as she did most mornings. This was her weekend off, but it never goes without incident. But when she opened her eyes and sat up to find her phone she realized she wasn't in her bed and she didn't recognize where she was. The bedroom was massive, easily the size of her entire condo.
When she found her phone it was laying gently on a pillow with a note next to it. She ignored her phone and picked up the note.
"Heidi, I didn't feel right letting myself in your house so I brought you to the compound. I'll be back as soon as my meetings over. Sleep well - xo Steve"
Heidi smiled reading the note, her ringing phone brought her back to the real world. Luckily it was a simple problem, she had to call corporate to rush order more straws for store. When her call was done she realized it was only 8AM and since Steve wasn't back yet she curled up in a ball and fell asleep again.
