Today was the day Heidi and Dustin were finally being released from the hospital. Steve, Bucky and Thor stayed the entire time. Thor happily took up the floor in the corner of the room while Bucky and Steve took turns resting with Heidi. Thor left a few hours ago, to make sure the penthouse was ready for them and to inform his father that Dustin was born. Odin had been demanding updates on Heidi and Dustin ever since they'd left Asgard. He really did take it seriously that Thor said she was family.

"Are you ready to go home, sugar?" Steve asked sweetly. He ran his hands along her spine as she sat up on the edge of the bed, slowly pulling her clothes on. She didn't even care that she'd changed her entire outfit in front of Bucky. He'd seen enough while she tried for a natural birth, whatever he didn't see then, he'd seen over the last 3 days of feedings.

"I'm so ready. The food here sucks and I miss our bed." Heidi said with a small laugh. She slowly stood up, slightly bending forward to avoid the pain from her incision flaring up.

"How are you feeling?" Steve asked. He continued rubbing along her spine, standing close and ready to support her if she needed the help walking.

"Like I got cut in half." Heidi said with a small laugh. But laughing hurt, so she cut herself off and clutched onto Steve's hand. Steve kissed her temple lightly, guiding her to the small couch in the hospital room so he could get Dustin ready to go home. "Relax, I'll take care of everything." He reassured her.

Steve had been amazing the last 3 days they'd been in the hospital. He insisted Heidi slept as much as she possibly could, he helped her walk around whenever she was up, he sent Thor or Bucky out whenever she was hungry and insisted they pick up any craving she had. Just in the 3 days since Dustin was born, Heidi had sushi 4 times. Clearly, it was a missed staple in her diet over the last 8 months.

"I'm making you do too much, let me do something." Heidi protested. She moved to stand up, but Bucky held onto her hand, a gentle and silent reminder to just relax.

Steve let out a quiet sigh, he moved to squat down in front of Heidi, placing his hands on her knees. "Sugar, you grew our baby. You were sick almost every single day. Then you were in labor for almost an entire day. Like you said, you got cut in half. I don't think we're even considered even until Dustin is at least 12." He joked, but his smile was genuine. He wanted to do as much as possible to help her, after all, she was the one that created the new life he was willing to die for.

"14, she did gain 35 pounds." Bucky teased.

Heidi jokingly slapped Bucky's leg. "I knew I was fat." She said, rolling her eyes.

Bucky's face switched to panic. "What? No! I didn't say that! That's not what I meant!" He quickly defended. But both Steve and Heidi let out small laughs. "I'm kidding, but the doctor said I'm only 10 pounds above my pre pregnancy weight. So the second she clears me, I'm living in that gym." Heidi said with a small laugh.

Steve rolled his eyes, gently pulling Heidi forward so he could place a kiss to her forehead. "You don't need to lose an ounce. You're perfect, always have been, always will be." He promised. He stood up and got Dustin ready to go home, leaving Heidi to lean against Bucky while he took care of everything. He knew the doctor would insist she at least ride in a wheelchair to the door, but he intended to carry her from there.

Heidi closed her eyes, letting out a happy hum. Of course, her entire body was sore, she was exhausted and bloated, wearing a diaper and had a splitting headache. But she was happy, their baby was here. She could hold him, kiss him and actually see his face clearly. Everything felt like a perfect fairytale, too good to be true this entire pregnancy. But hearing his first cry, sealed everything into reality so much more. She was married to the most perfect man she'd ever met, now with a baby that looked just like him.
