Heidi and Steve were sitting close together during breakfast, Steve's arm wrapped around her as his hand rested on her hip.
"You said you have a baby appointment today, right?" Tony asked halfway through breakfast.
"Yes, did you still want me to take the day off? I can do a half day?" Heidi offered as she ate. The eggs seemed to upset her stomach today, so she simply picked at the potatoes and the fruit on her plate, ignoring the rest.
"Nonsense, take the whole day." Tony insisted.
"How is Dustin doing in there?" Nat asked. Heidi couldn't help but smile at how much the entire team already loved their son. "He's running out of room." Heidi joked.
"How far along now?" Sam asked.
"27 weeks, measuring at 31." Steve answered proudly. He leaned in and gave Heidi a quick kiss on the temple.
"Probably won't be long before she's on bedrest." Steve confessed. The whole team looked at him worried but also surprised.
"Bedrest? Are you okay?" Wanda asked nervously.
"I'm fine. Don't let Steve put worries in everyone's head, I'm fine." Heidi promised. She wasn't so sure it was true though. Some days she struggled to stay awake long enough to do anything. But she felt like the luckiest woman in the entire world to have Steve by her side. He took over every tiny task that she seemed to struggle with. No matter how small, between putting her shoes on for her, opening her zofran when she was sick, brushing her hair. Everything and anything he could do to make her life easier.
"Her blood pressure was a little high last week, and the doctor is worried about Dustin measuring a month ahead of schedule." Steve explained.
"Say the word and your maternity leave starts, as long as you need." Tony said confidently.
"I'm okay. It's not like I do any physical labor." Heidi joked.
"I know. But my baby needs sleep." Tony said with a shrug. Heidi gently squeezed Steve's thigh, she knew he hated when Tony said that.
"I'll let you know, Stark. We will do whatever is in my wife and my sons best interest." Steve said. He emphasized the 'my' in each statement. Heidi gave his thigh another squeeze, feeling his anger melt when he looked over at stared into her cerulean eyes.
The rest of breakfast went quietly, Tony seemed to keep to himself which relieved Heidi. She knew it made Steve mad when Tony joked and claimed Dustin as his own. But she couldn't get him to stop, she'd asked him too many times to count. She confided in him and told him how badly it bothered Steve, Tony didn't seem to care. Between his platonic love for Heidi and his love to make Steve mad, he didn't want to stop.
"Let's go check on our baby, sugar." Steve said with a smile when breakfast was done. He lifted Heidi into his arms, happily carrying her off to the elevator.
"How are you feeling? You barley ate anything.." Steve asked, staring down at her in his arms with worry.
"I feel more tired everyday." Heidi admitted as the two rode the elevator to the lab, she rested her head onto his shoulder as they did.
"I know, sugar. But you're doing such a good job. How about after the appointment we get you a nap?" Steve offered.
"That sounds wonderful. Will you join me?" She asked with a smile. Steve leaned down and stole a kiss from her sleepy lips. "Of course I will." He promised.
"Have you heard from Thor?" Heidi asked.
"Not in a couple of days. Do you miss him?" Steve asked. Thor had been back in Asgard for the last month, he knew she was struggling without her best friend. But he also knew she didn't want to bother him if it wasn't necessary. She didn't feel like missing him was a necessity, just a selfish feeling. She couldn't hog him all to herself, he was a God, he had an entire planet to run. He had the entirety of the seven realms to protect.
