(Y/N)'s POV
It was September 1st, and by the time the (L/N)s arrived at Kings Cross it was ten minutes to the specified time on the letter. (Y/N) may have accidentally overslept, and his mother may have misplaced her floo powder, but neither would admit that to the other.
"10:50 just enough time to board" said my mother who was practically glued to my hip, fearing that I would get lost in the hubbub of people, she hurried me along looking for the impossible platform, I don't know how she managed it being as short as she was compared to me.
As we arrived at the barrier between platforms 9 and 10 my mother wore a scowl, directed at the ginger family in front of us and was clearly intended to show her annoyance at the ruckus they were causing and how they were slowing us from entering. "She's done this so many times, you'd figure she'd have it down pat by now." My mother grumbled.
A tall, gangly freckled member of the family who looked around my age and about 2-3 inches shorter than me and was clearly very nervous caught the eye of my mother and blushed crimson, his ears being the hottest red. To avoid everyone looking down on my family or seeing us as rude I introduced myself to clear the tension in the air.
Mustering up all the courage I could I stepped forward after shaking off my mother's vice like grip on my arm "Hiya, the names (Y/N) Bogwood... err (L/N) I mean, are you going to Hogwarts too?" Changing my mind on my name after a cold glare from my mother that I could feel from here, it was not the smoothest of introductions, but it would do.
"Sounds familiar, Ron Weasley, and um yeah we are" he said in a voice that sounded as nervous as I had expected as he gestured behind him. "Blimey, there is a lot of you." I said as I looked over his family, before seeing who he had meant.
It was then (Y/N) noticed another boy who was practically stuck to Ron's shadow, he had a cart of his own with a snowy owl on top but apart from that he looked normal, he stood there looking very out of his element. (Y/N) could only manage a small wave before a plump ginger woman directed the boy to the entrance to Platform 9 ¾.
This led to another awkward silence between us as the plump woman who I assumed was Ron's mother let him go next and followed him, a small girl at her side who had to be another sibling. "10:55!"
This was the exact moment that my mother saw fit to practically tackle me, she sprinted the both of us through the barrier, then we sped across the platform and she shoved my trunk and my new black cat Bones, who was in her cage, onto the train and all but threw me onto the Hogwarts Express.
"Send me an owl when you get there, and every week for a check in, make sure to stand up straight, don't neglect your studies, don't fly on any brooms, feed Bones well, be good, and do us proud" and "I can't wait to hear all about it" were the things I could make out from her rant as the train headed off, she added a bellowing " I LOVE YOU" along with a frantic wave, she disappeared from my vision as the train left the station.
I set to my new task, finding a compartment to sit in, a daunting task in this madhouse, it reminded me of St. Mungo's. On my travels I saw a number of strange things, a boy crawling on the floor mumbling the name "Trevor" as well as an older boy with a tarantula somewhere near the middle of the train, at least this was what stood out from the others all pushing past to get a compartment. But finally, I made it to a compartment that wasn't already packed to capacity.
After a timid knock I swung open the door, I was relieved to find the only two familiar faces I had on the entire train. Ron Weasley and Something Something, which was my name for the boy behind Ron at the station.
"Can I sit here?" was the only thing I managed to say through my nervousness. My head was killing me, all the noise wasn't good for my ears.
Something Something looked to Ron who grunted and shrugged and then proceeded to frantically nod in a way that reminded me of my mother. So, I then dragged my stuff into the room, scratching under Bones chin to calm her because for some reason she was fiercely hissing at Ron's lap. It then occurred to me that I didn't know the boy's name so I asked as politely as I could.
