(Y/N)'s POV

Parvati assured me that Lavender was going to meet us in the hall so I gave a nervous nod, "You look very nice by the way Parvati" I added, more out of a need to talk than anything else, it calmed me down, she smiled and took Harry's arm.

We awkwardly walked down to the hall in a pack, then I finally caught a glimpse of Lavender, she was wearing a pale blue dress that fit her nicely, it had a silver band around the waist, she had paired it with a small necklace with a colourful gem on it and matching silver shoes that looked very fancy and hard to walk in, but did make her at least a bit taller.

As I approached her, she had a wide smile, she was wearing a little bit of makeup and had clearly spent a long time on her hair, which was tied back neatly and intricately. "Lavender you look... stunning" I said, having trouble finding the words because I was, well... stunned.

"Give us a twirl" I said cheerfully, she giggled a bit and complied, spinning and laughing, "you look very handsome (Y/N)" she returned, I blushed but retorted, "Well, when I'm with someone as pretty as you I have to look my best."

"I don't look that good" she said, though her face exploded crimson, I reassured her, "You look amazing, I'd wolf whistle if I could, but unfortunately I was cursed by my creator to be lacking." I joked, she smiled and took my arm.

Ron was sulking about Hermione not being here, he said an awkward hello to Padma but seemed preoccupied, so I nudged him, he just looked at me, "What?" He said grumpily, I tutted at him.

"Padma you look very nice, good to see you" she smiled and thanked me, muttering something about at least one of us being a gentleman. "Sort yourself out you mug." I whispered to Ron, Lavender overheard and stifled a giggle.

McGonagall called us over, she instructed us as to what we were doing and told us to wait for our cue. That was also the moment Hermione walked over "Hi, Harry!" she said. "Hi, Parvati!", then she looked at us, "Hi Lavender."

It was odd, for a few seconds I didn't recognise her, it was hard to describe, I had seen her almost every school day for the last four years, but she looked like someone I had just met today, she was entirely different.

The best way I could think to put it was that her face was wrong, like, over the years there was a certain way that I've come to expect people to look, Harry always had slightly unruly hair, even when he flattened it down, Ron always seemed to have at least one bit of dirt on his face.

Luna would always have strange earrings and a bit of a dreamy look in her eyes, Neville's eyes would always dart around the room a little. Stuff like that. It was why I was so thrown off when Hermione sorted her teeth out, It was something I had come to accept changing suddenly.

But tonight at least, Hermione's face had none of that, she looked completely foreign to me, but nevertheless still breath-taking. I took a minute more to examine her. Come to think of it, why did I like Hermione's face so much?

It was only when Lavender let out a nervous giggle and a "Ready?" That I snapped out of it and realised we were about to start the ball, "As I'll ever be" I said, trying my best not to glance at Hermione and Krum

As I nervously took Lavenders waist and slowly danced along the great hall with her I examined her face, more out of curiosity now, then I realised what her little quirk was, she always seemed to be holding in a giggle.

It was always threatening to bubble up to the surface, which led to her having a damn near permanent smile. It was uplifting to see. As we danced along the hall, Lavender's smile grew wider. We danced for what felt like hours. Especially to my feet.
