"No foam latte for Kelly." You shouted out. A petite brunette came and grabbed the drink. She gave a shy thank you before rejoining her friends at their table.

The day after you applied to the cafe, Hawkins called you saying you got the job. You spent a day learning how to make the drinks before you started serving customers. Classes hadn't even started yet, but already, you had served tons of customers.

While the cafe was cute and probably a nice place to study. You didn't think people were coming for the limited drink menu. And you were right. You quickly learned that Hawkins did fortune telling. In a small cutout of the cafe, divided by purple curtains, Hawkins would spread out his tarot cards and tell customers their fortunes. It was good for business. A lot of the customers that came to get a fortune telling ended up buying a coffee.

"How's the cutest barista doing?" You looked away from the espresso machine you were cleaning and saw Ace smiling over at you. He took to coming at the end of your shift so he could take you out for a late lunch.

"Tired. But better now that you're here." You smiled. This was your first job. You normally woke up early, but you weren't used to waking up early and going to work. Seeing Ace did brighten your day. It also meant your shift was over. "Give me a sec, I'll go get my coworker."

There were two other people who worked at the cafe besides yourself and Hawkins. You had only ever met Vivi, though, as her shift started right after yours. She had a bubbly personality and was just starting out at university like you. She tended to get to work fifteen minutes early and sat in the back until her shift started.

"Hey, I'm heading out now." You told Vivi as you walked into the back. You went over to your locker and grabbed your bag.

"Okay, have a good day." Vivi followed you out to the front. She smirked when she saw Ace waiting by the door for you. "When are you two gonna become a thing?"

"Soon. Maybe? I'm working on it." You whispered and grabbed your tips.

"Work on it faster." Vivi quietly giggled. You and her had become quick friends, and she was quick to see that you and Ace liked one another. You said a quick goodbye to her and went over to Ace. He held the door open for you, and you two left the cafe. You two made your way off campus and down the street.

Ace had shown you a diner he liked going to. It had a complete retro theme to it and served some of the best milkshakes you've ever had. It was a short walk from campus, which was a plus.

"How's work been?" Ace asked. Not to your suprise he took your hand and held it in his. Holding hands and sharing hugs was a normal thing between you two.

"Busy. Seeing as classes haven't started yet, I thought I'd be eased into it. I'm glad my shifts are short." You sighed, glad you only worked four hours instead of eight.

"Anyone giving you any trouble? Are any customers rude to you that I should take care of?" Ace gave you a cheeky smile.

"No, my coworkers are nice to me. Some customers get impatient waiting their turn to see Hawkins, though." You softly giggled. More than once, you've had a customer asking you when it was their turn to see Hawkins. Each time, you said something along the lines of 'it takes some time for Hawkins to divine the future' or 'I think the spirits are making a fuss, give it a few minutes'. Each time the customer bought it and would go back to waiting their turn.

"I never understood fortune telling. Do people really believe that some cards are gonna tell them their future?" Ace chuckled and shook his head.

"Whether it's real or not isn't up for me to decide. But I think if people get a good reading, then they do what they can to make sure they get that good outcome. And if it's something bad, then they do what they can to prevent it." You gave your honest opinion. You didn't believe much in fortune telling either. But in your short time working at the cafe, you have seen repeat customers come in to see Hawkins. The blond was either really good at fortune telling or those people just got lucky.
