Work started back up at the café, it had been closed for a little while the cops searched for any evidence. They didn't seem to find much though, the only security camera in the place was positioned to face the till. There was no way of knowing if your murdering stalker was a man or woman. Bartolomeo didn't remember anything either, he didn't know someone was in the cafe with him until he was struck over the back of the head.
The green haired male had woken up a few days ago, he was still in the hospital though, since the gash on the back of his head was pretty deep. You refused to visit him, if he wasn't already off your stalker's shit list, you didn't want to put him back on it by seeing him.
"Here's you're double espresso miss." You placed the drink down on the counter. Usually you would take the customers name when they ordered their drink. But business had been slow since the cafe opened back up, your breakfast rush had dwindled down to around ten people, and afterwards only a handful of customers came in.
This was due in part because Bartolomeo was almost killed in the cafe and also the hours had been changed. Hawkins had tried hiring someone to take over the closing shift until Bartolomeo got back, but no one wanted to work a temporary job. Vivi also only worked half her shift now, Hawkins shift ended halfway through her shift, understandably so, your blue haired friend didn't want to work alone. So the cafe was only opened in the morning and part of the afternoon.
"Morning, Miss. (Y/N)." Detective Smoker greeted you. This was another new thing, whenever you worked at the café Smoker would pop in. There was also a cop that stood outside of the cafe at all times and one would also follow you to and from your classes. Apparently your dad threatened to take legal action against the police force if they didn't put a better security detail on you.
"Morning, did you want a coffee?" You knew he liked a plain black coffee, but he didn't always order one when he came in.
"Yeah, I could use one." Smoker looked around the cafe, there was one customer in the store, sitting at a table with their headphones in and flipping through some notebooks. Hawkins purple curtains were also pushed back, the blond was sitting at his table looking over his tarot cards. "Not very busy today."
"Hasn't been the past few days. Here you go." You set his coffee down on the counter.
Smoker grabbed his coffee and took a sip, he leaned against the counter and spoke quietly. "There's been nothing on the cameras."
Your dad had gotten you little spy cameras just like he promised. He had given them to Yasopp, who gave them to Usopp who gave them to you when he came over to hangout. There was one set up in Ace's dorm facing the door. You had taken the other two cameras to your dorm, you made it look like you were picking up extra clothes as you and Ace set them up in your room and living room.
Originally, it was just going to be you, Ace, your dad, and uncles watching the video feed. But you were worried that your stalker might have found out about the cameras in some way. So you told Smoker about them and allowed him access to the cameras. If your stalker happened to be some hacker whizz, you thought it possible for them to mess with camera footage somehow. You were hoping that the hacker unit Smoker had watching the feed would be able to spot if it was tampered with in any way.
"That's good, I guess." You mumbled, you were happy there was nothing to report, but at the same time you wanted there to be a lead to follow. You turned your attention to the door as someone came in. Smoker gave you a curt nod and left.
"Hey, cutie."
Oh, no.
You glanced towards the cafe window, but Smoker was already gone, and couldn't get the cops attention outside without alerting the customer that something was up.
"Uh, hey. What can I get you?" You plastered on your customer service smile. You looked the customer over: black mullet, brown eyes, dark rimmed glasses, and around 5'2".
"A large coffee mocha, extra whip cream. And you can go ahead and write your number on the cup." He grinned at you, you noticed he had a gap in his front top teeth and had braces.
"Can I get your name?" You completely brushed his comment aside.
"The name's Carl, but you can call me daddy." He winked.
Gross.
"You're coffee will be ready in a minute." You just chose to ignore his pathetic attempts at flirting. There was a slight frown on his face as he paid for his drink, you quickly made his drink and handed it to him. The frown on his getting deeper when he didn't notice your number anywhere on the cup. He sighed and left, once he was out the door you quickly wrote down his description and name.
You walked out from behind the counter, Hawkins keeping a steady gaze on you as you went outside to talk with the cop.
"And you want me to do what qith this information?" The officer asked as he stared down at the piece of paper you handed him.
"Follow him. He flirted with me."
"So?"
"Do you not know what's going on here?" You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose. "Just call Detective Smoker to come back here."
The officer just rolled his eyes and spoke into his walkie-talkie. "This is officer Brent, calling for Detective Smoker to come back to the cafe."
There was a muffled 'roger' and the officer looked back at you with a mocking grin. "Happy?"
"Yes." You huffed and walked back into the cafe, you bumped straight into Hawkins.
"Is everything alright?" Hawkins asked, he turned his gaze to officer Brent who had his back facing the cafe window.
"Yeah, just asking the nice officer if he wanted something to drink." You lied.
"I see. I have to step out for a bit." Hawkins walked around you towards the door.
"W-where are you going?" You didn't want to think the worst, but it seemed like too much of a coincidence for him to be leaving right now.
Did he catch on to what I was doing and is going to go kill that poor guy right now.
"Just out." Hawkins said before leaving. A few minutes later Detective Smoker showed up.
"What's the trouble?" Smoker asked, he noticed the way you were nibbling at your bottom lip and your brows were knitted in worry. Something was clearly wrong.
"This guy flirted with me." You handed Smoker the piece of paper. "And shortly after he leaves, Hawkins leaves too."
"Did he say where he was going?"
"No, I asked but he just said he was going out."
"This might be nothing, it might be something. I'll look into it." Smoker pocketed the paper into his coat pocket. "Just finish up your shift, officer Brent is here if you need anything."
Cause officer Brent does such a stand up job.
