"Luke," Amara nearly shouted. Gathering her dress in her hands so she could go bounding down the steps. She ran the distance to his arms, jumped up and wrapped herself around him. She ignored Felix and the other guard that escorted Luke in and just hugged her friend for dear life. "How is this even possible? I thought you couldn't leave the Res."
Luke's muscular arms wrapped around her plump form and held her to him. One of his hands tangled into her hair as she buried her head between his head and shoulder. "You're telling me, I'm just as surprised. It's good to see you alive, Ami. I thought I'd never see you again."
Amara felt tears beginning to well up in her eyes, "Same."
There was a clap that rang throughout the room. "What a happy reunion," Aro said, joyously, but the look within his eyes said something different. He did not like seeing his mate so happy within another man's arms, but what could he do? He was the one to reach out the mutt and even paid to bring him here.
Amara pulled back from Luke to look at Aro as he descended the stairs. Her arms slowly reseeded from Luke when she saw the anger simmering beneath Aro's iris'. She looked at him quizzically. When he was a step away Aro gave a small smile to her and a small head nod to Luke. Luke tensed up behind her.
"I trust the flight was well," Aro asked the younger man.
Luke only gave a nod, his face looking as though he was having a hard time breathing through his nose. Amara, finally connecting the pieces, felt a tear begin to slide down her face. "You brought him here?"
Aro's eyes flicked from Luke back to her. He raised a hand that was encased in a black leather glove and gently swiped away the falling tear. "Anything for you, cara mia," Aro said while his eyes stared deeply into hers. He was searching for something.
Amara wondered, why would he do this? What exactly was he playing at? What did he want from her in return? She allowed his hand to caress her cheek, her eyes never leaving his either. Her heart picked up its pace when his eyes went from her eyes to her lips and back again. She instinctively licked her bottom lip before biting near the piercings. Did he want her to kiss him? 'Not happening,' she thought, though a side of her wanted to.
"Thank you," she finally spoke after a moment of silence.
His hand slowly lowered from her cheek down her arm till he grasped one of her hands. He gave it a small squeeze, "No thanks necessary, bellissima."
Releasing her, he turned to the rest of the room to address the stunned vampires, "This is Luke, our mate's friend. I expect everyone to treat him respectfully."
There was a shared moment between each of the guards before Aro continued, "You all are dismissed."
Most of the guard left, only the personal guards remained lining the walls. Caius looked seething in his chair, clearly not liking the fact that Luke was there. Marcus held concern in his eyes, but his face was unreadable. It was obvious neither of them knew about this and it was all Aro's doing.
"Now I expect the same respect from you that we will be giving you," Aro addressed Luke, turning his head in the shapeshifters direction.
Luke seemed to bite his tongue, but nodded once more. He seemed to still be holding his breath, obviously not wanting to inhale whatever was around him. Amara stood between the two as if to protect him even though she was sure he didn't need her for that.
"Jane," Aro called the little teen over.
She appeared by his side, "Yes, Master."
"Please show our guest to his quarters and see to his needs," he instructed her.
