When We Were 15

Chapter 5 Training

For the first day or so of training everyone kept to themselves. Well except for Cassie and Finnick who were practically inseparable.

Cassie had thought it over and whispered to Finnick "I'm in" then proceeded to walk past to the axe throwing station.

During training one day, Finnick noticed Katniss over at the knot-tying station. He and Cassie noticed she was having difficulty with one of the knots so they decided to go over and offer some help.

So Finnick helped her to finish the complicated knot she'd been having trouble working on.

"How are you so good at knots?" Katniss asked.

"Well being from District 4 we're taught to tie every type of knot from a young age."

"Finnick is capable with all knots, and even the most complicated ones don't seem to faze him at all." Cassie explained.

"The only time a knot fazed me is the time I tried to teach you back when we were 15" he said to Cassie "I still to this day can't even think of how you messed up so badly" he joked.

Cassie hit his arm. "Shut up you idiot"

Katniss looked uncomfortable and left the station, going off to find Peeta.

Later that day, Finnick introduced Katniss and Peeta to Mags, whom they immediately liked and befriended.

Like the other tributes, Finnick saw Katniss shooting down all the fake birds on the first day and was impressed.

Cassie was kind of impressed but not that much so she challenged Katniss to an archery competition. In the end Katniss won but Cassie had come close.

She wasn't fazed though she knew archery was one of Katniss's main weapons. Cassie on the other hand wasn't that bothered ,she could use all kinds of weapons.

During the remainder of the public training days the three made an agreement.

Finnick gave Katniss and Cassie an hour of trident lessons in return for one hour of archery lessons and an hour in knife throwing.

The three had a lot of fun and actually found their time together enjoyable. Cassie could feel herself becoming close to Katniss.

Whenever she became nervous about what would happen in the arena Cassie would grab onto the necklace as a reminder of Finnicks promise of freedom if she remains in an alliance with Katniss.
