Chapter 8 Let The Games Begin

Cassie woke up just as uneasy as she had been the first time she was in the games.

Cassie did as she usually did, she got into the provided outfit for the games. Then she tried to find her necklace. It wasn't on the side where she had left it last night.

Cassie began to panic she had to have the necklace to show Katniss they could be trusted.

After searching for ages she decided she would have to leave without it and hope that Katniss didn't try and kill her.

She was taken to the hovercraft that would take them to the arena. She sat next to Finnick and when they were getting the trackers injected she grabbed onto his hand to calm herself down.

They were taken underground and taken to separate rooms where they got into the tubes to get into the arena.

Before she got into hers she saw Charming. "Cassie wait!" he said.

"What is it?" She asked confused.

"You forgot this" he handed her the necklace of her alliance with 12.

"Thank you" She said as she put it on "I thought I lost this"

"No I knew you'd want it in the arena so I had to have it checked by the security team. Now I'm returning it to you"

"Thank you for everything Charming. I'm going to miss you"
The pair hugged and Cassie heard the timer begin.

"I've got to go" she said gesturing to the tube. Cassie took a deep breath before walking in.

The door sealed behind her and the platform raised her until she was stood in a field around the cornucopia.

They were in a circle shape surrounded by water and small dirt pathways.

Cassie looked around. She noticed Finnick. His pedestal was to the left of the District 9 female. Only 4 spaces away from her.

The bell signalled the beginning of the third Quarter Quell. The run for each life had begun.

Cassie decided to swim when she reached the Cornucopia she grabbed an axe, a quiver of arrows and some knives.

She spotted Finnick, who was the second to arrive at the Cornucopia after Katniss, gaining a trident and a net, along with earning the first kill of the Games.

Cassie looked for Katniss and asked "Me and Finnick want to help you" she said.

Suddenly she heard Finnick yell "Duck"
They did and his trident went through the District 5 males chest after he tried to attack Cassie and Katniss with a spear.

Cassie again asked about an alliance with her. Katniss looked at her wearily then she noticed Finnick and Cassie had matching jewellery.
His bracelet matched Haymitch's and her necklace matched the bracelet.

Katniss agreed knowing that it's Haymitch's nonverbal way of telling her to form an alliance with Finnick and Cassie.

Still not fully trusting them, Katniss remained extremely wary of their every move.
