There is no noise, until we hear a small, quiet whine...
I look up and I see a little black nose. Benny barks and runs over to where this creature is. Lenny rushes over and squeals with delight.
Running over, we all have an urge of excitement at what we see. There, curled in a little ball is Lenny's ten week old puppy, born from the Collie. Milly bends down and the puppy gives her a kiss, making everyone grin."His name is Charlie, I didn't expect him to be here." Lenny says, still sadness in his voice. He is probably thinking of his parents.
"Charlie, here boy! Come meet Benny." Abby calls, watching Charlie stretch and get up slowly walking over to Benny.
I watch too and realise quickly that something isn't right, he is shivering almost uncontrollably and he looks hungry, very hungry. I say this to the others and Lenny picks him up, realising this too. We decide to get him warm and I take off my jumper, wrapping him up in its warmth. Abby gets some food out of the back pack and we feed him some snacks to boost his energy.
Half an hour passes and we are just about ready to set off for the next stop, the petrol station. To our surprise Benny is acting like a mother to Charlie, which is really good as Charlie's Mum isn't here. At the minute they are curled up together, asleep. For the next hour we go through Lenny's house. Once again looking for clues or signs of why everything has disappeared. But, same result as before. NOTHING.
I get some garbage bags and we all fill them with things we will need if things don't go so well. At the end of our collection, we end up with a huge bag of food; a big pile of warm jumpers and clothes; some nails, hammers, glue and tape. We decide to leave all this at the house because we don't need to be carrying it around with us all day.Ten minutes later we are running down the drive way, the dogs chasing each other behind us.
*****************************************
The petrol station is bad, very bad.
We all have different reactions."No, no, no. Why is this happening to US?!" Lenny yells.
Milly and Abby burst into to tears at the sight and I can't take this anymore, I look up at the petrol station with horrified eyes and collapse on the ground. It has been completely demolished and everything is gone.
Milly, Abby, Lenny, Charlie and Benny all come over to me and we sit crumpled on the ground in a big heap, sobbing.2:37. I read my watch, surprised at the time. I tell the others I am just going for a walk and set off in an easterly direction. I glance behind me and see Lenny with a worried look on his face. Sprinting I run away from all our problems until I collapse onto the ground with exhaustion.
Everything goes black.
