Milly's POV
Numb. That's what I am feeling right now. Looking at two of my best friends lying next to each other, pale and weak I am scared. What is going to happen? How long will it be like this? Annica is looking a little better which is great, she has a little bit of colour in her cheeks and is sitting up. Probably from noticing my glance she looks up and smiles weakly at me. Her dimples showing slightly."I'm hungry." She says and I glow inside from relief. At least her appetite is returning. Lenny comes over and I ask him to grab a snack from our backpack. A couple of minutes later he comes over with a blanket, and some muesli bars. I reach for the chocolate one and pass it to Annica, her smile widening.
"That's my favourite, you must know me well." She jokes whilst ripping it open and taking a small bite. We sit there on the warm blanket, munching when suddenly Lenny gets up.
"We have to find out what's going on. I vote we go to Annica's house and then mine and collect certain things we need. Then I think we should venture into the city and see what's happening and where everyone is." Lenny states.
"I think Annica and Abby need more rest. How's your cut going Annica?" I say.
"It's definitely not as sore as earlier today. I think the bleeding may have stopped. Maybe we should have a look at it." Annica exclaims. "Though I do agree we need a bit more rest, I think one more day and then I'll be right to go."
"Okay, we will camp here tonight and then go around lunchtime tomorrow." Lenny says.
We peel off the t - shirt slowly and have a look at Annica's arm. I am surprised at how quickly the cut has healed. The blood has stopped trickling out and it is nearly completely sealed with a fresh layer of skin. Annica says it is still a little bit sore but she is feeling better. Not wanting to upset her, I debate whether I should bring up the subject of colour. When we last spoke to her she was looking up at the tree's and saying that they weren't green, neither was the red jumper I was wearing. She had thought it was white. When Abby came running back from the creek she was crying and said that the ground was black and white. Was it something in their minds? I just have to find out.
ABBY'S POV
The afternoon sun is shining in my eyes. I sit up and notice the others sitting grouped together on a blanket, talking. Annica is with them. She must be feeling better. I slowly stand up and almost gasp in shock, as memories come back from a few hours ago. The colour, the fading and the flashes of black and white. I suddenly realise that now everything is colourless. Either a plane white or a dull black. I pinch myself a couple of times to make sure I'm not dreaming. I'm not, it hurts. I walk over to the others, pushing my thoughts to the side. They sense my presence as I get closer and they seem really happy to see me."Abby! How are you feeling?" Milly says kindly and pulls me into a warm hug.
"Alright b-b-but I can only see black and white. N-n-no colour." I stutter out, nervous to see what their reactions are.
"Are you serious!?" Lenny exclaims
"Yeah." I say, scared and confused.
"Don't worry, that has happened to me too. I can't see colour either." Annica says and I look up and see her sad face looking up at mine.
Worry, confusion and anxiety hits everyone like a punch in the stomach and we are left sitting there. Four young teenagers, alone.
