ANNICA'S POV
I run over to Abby and give her a hug. It is hard for me adapting to not being able to see normal colours, she must be struggling too.
I hold her hands and look into her worried face. "We need to find help." I say to the others, who are surrounding Abby and I, looking scared.
After ten minutes of recapping over what we had planned to do I go over to the backpack and pull out the last bits of food. I lay it out onto the grass and see that we have quite a collection. Two apples, three muesli bars, some nuts and a little package I secretly snuck in from my house; lollies. Calling the others over I shake the blanket we were lying on out and lay it back down, for us all to sit on."Welcome to our gourmet dinner!" I laugh as I see Lenny run over, his mind ticking, trying to find out what we have to eat. Seeing Abby's dull face turn into a smile when she hears me laugh makes me happy. Everyone sits down and we share what we have got, saving the lollies until last.
*****************************
Three and a half hours later
I am curled up under the blanket with Milly, Abby and Lenny trying to stay warm. They are all asleep, fast asleep. I listen to the beautiful night sounds and hear an owl hoot. I hope Mum and Dad are okay. The dogs are curled up on our feet, keeping us warm. Benny, sensing that I am awake carefully climbs through the tangle of legs and arms and curls up by my side. I kiss his soft head and I finally fall asleep.
I wake up to the sound of a shriek and a gasp. I sit up quickly and realise that it's the morning. I look over to see where the sound came from and see Milly crying in shock.
Stumbling over I ask them if everything is alright."I can't see any colours! Only black and white!!" Milly cries, shaking her head in disbelief. Looking over at Lenny I figure the same must of happened to him as he is turning his hands over and over and he keeps looking up at the sky, obviously wondering why it has changed colour. I ask him if the same has happened to him. He reply's, his answer being a confused 'yes'.
"So now I suppose that's all of us. The no colour seeing four." Lenny tries to joke a minute later, but only i crack a smile. Determination suddenly rushes through me and I stride over to our belongings and start to pack them up into the small backpack we have with us. My stomach rumbles but I firmly remind myself that we have not one crumb of food left and I will have to wait until we get to my house."
Two long and exhausting hours later we reach my doorstep. Benny barks and I open the door to let him in. We follow behind and a rush of cold air flows from the open door, chilling my body. I shut it and we all walk into the room where all our garbage bags we left are waiting.
"Okay, so let's all empty a garbage bag and then we can sort out one big bag of things we will need for our journey." I start to tip one out, and the others follow along.
Sorting out the bags wasn't as hard as it looked but we had managed to get stuff everywhere. "Well I think the first thing we should sort out is clothes. It will only get colder from here so everyone should get a couple of jumpers and wooly layers." Lenny instructs and I'm glad he is taking charge. I am still feeling a little tired from the shock I had and my arm is beginning to get a little bit sore.
By lunch time, we all had clothes, food and emergency things like bandages etc. I found some of my family's backpacks so now we each have one with everything shared around. We all pack two drink bottle's each and step outside, ready for whatever is in store ahead.
"Alright, I am set to go find Mum and Dad."
"Help is on our way."
"Everyone stick together, we are going on a journey."
"We are off on a expedition!"'Four nervous, anxious, excited, scared, emotional teenagers set out on an adventure, making sure that no matter what happens they will always stick together as true friends do.'
