06 || "I doubt that"
I laid in bed at three in the morning with my mind blank, ready for sleep to takeover and take me away. there was nothing but silence which was no suprise at this time. this wasn't odd or out of the normal, i've always been one to stay up late not able to sleep and dreading it. but, as soon as it came around and i could no keep my heavy eyelids open no longer, i wanted it to last forever.
the position i was in grew uncomfortable and my shirt began sticking to my stomach. i knew i couldn't sleep in this state so i slowly untangled myself from the sheets then lifted myself up from the bed, heading for the dresser that contained most of my clothing. i stopped midway, though, the sound of the wooden floor to the hall outside my bedroom creaking signifying someone's presence. it worried me immensely, the knob soon turning frightening me further. jason stepped inside revealing himself with something on his back. it was a guitar which suprised me. Jason doesn't sing.
"what are you doing?" I breathed out in relief. he sent me a sympathetic smile as he walked towards my bed and took a seat at the edge, setting the guitar beside me. i didn't ask just awaited his explanation after taking a seat with my legs crossed in the center of the bed.
"a friend was giving it away. he bought a new one, didn't have a purpose for this one and gave me it." he began to explain, his eyes never meeting mine, instead focused on getting it out and into his hands. I nodded my head and watched him fiddle with some strings.
"I thought you'd might like it. I know you have a lot going on, it'd be nice to occupy yourself. who knows you might even be good."
this caused a smile to creep onto my face. I quickly hugged jason, my arms wrapping around his torso for a moment as I did so. after pulling away I laughed, amused at the thought.
"I doubt that. thank you, jason. I appreciate it." I never had an experience with a guitar I've only ever seen people gracefully fool around with it in videos posted online. they sounded amazing, it sounded like a difficult task to accomplish. I didn't want to tell Jason I didn't want it, I decided to give it a go. he's right, I need to ocuppy my own mind.
he stood up and kissed my forehead goodnight before exiting the room. after carefully closing the door behind him I scurried back to my spot on the bed, reaching into the case in search for a pick. once I felt it in my hold I held it up, examining it with a small smile. my eyes fell upon the guitar, my fingertips gliding across the strings effortlessly. I tried my best at mimicking the way the professionals would hold the instrument. when I felt I had got it down I began to attempt at playing.
It didn't sound the way it did for others in the videos. It sounded like a mess of chords being strummed. I didn't mind because I didn't expect to be good, but it felt nice to have this and experiment with it. It was nice trying to come up with my own little tune though it sounded awful. After a couple more moments of me simply fooling around with the guitar I decided to place it back into it's case and lean it against a wall.
I got around to changing my shirt then plopped myself onto the mattress not bothering to bury myself underneath the sheets. Soon enough I fell asleep.
