11 || "Is Uh Shawn Home?"
I wasn't even sure where Shawn's house was. I just ran down familiar streets without any shoes. Pain shot through my feet, they ached the longer I ran. My sobs had calmed down, but my chest was was pounding and breathing heavy. I felt like I couldn't breathe. I stopped for a minute and held my hand over my chest whilst taking in the houses surrounding me. The field of trees making up the woods Shawn had brought me to that one day was there, meaning I was close. I was walking now no longer running. My mouth was dry and it became hard to swallow. Thankfully, I didn't wear mascara because it'd be running down my face.
Shawn's house was right across the street from me. I crossed looking both ways. The streets were empty, but lights inside the homes on. Only one room had light showing through the windows in Shawn's home. I went up the steps then knocked on the door nervously, hands shaking. I've never been to his house before and I had no clue who'd answer the door. I prayed it would be Shawn, but it wasn't.
A little girl opened the door slowly. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw me, her eyes traveling up and down. When she noticed my bare feet she furrowed her eyebrows and kept silent. She turned her head and looked back into the house unsure of what to do, then turned back to me. I could tell she was frightened. Who could blame her? Some random girl she's never seen before just knocked on her door with a skimpy dress, bare feet, and tear stained cheeks as well as a red nose.
"Ye..Yes?" She stuttered. I forced a smile then wiped my nose with the back of my hand.
"Is uh, Shawn home?" She nodded her head in response then let go of the door and yelled his name. I stood there staring at the ground.
The door then opened moments later and Shawn's eyes widened as he stood there in surprise like his sister had done. "Shit, Scar, what happened?" He grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me inside, shutting the door behind me. While his arm reached over my shoulder to do so, I wrapped my arms around him and cried into his chest. I was a mess, I couldn't help myself from whimpering as I cried.
"I'm sorry." I cried while grasping his shirt tightly. He wrapped his arms around my neck and held me "Shh.." His hands fell to my sides and ran up them comfortingly. "You're alright, we'll talk upstairs."
I pulled away from his chest and he grabbed my hand then led me past his confused sister and up the stairs.
Shawn walked behind me with hands placed on my shoulders, guiding me. We stopped in front of a door that I soon opened after Shawn gave me permission to. "This is my room.."
It was nice and neat. Only two shirts were laid out on his bed that was at the corner of the bedroom. His walls were a dark blue and the lighting wasn't bright at all it was cozy.
"this is my room..uh obviously.." he mumbled nervously then quickly hurried over to his bed, collecting the shirts from it.
I stood there by the door with my hands running up and down my arms for warmth. Shawn shut the closet doors after hanging his shirts then turned around and faced me with concern.
"What happened? Are you hurt?" He questioned lowly as he walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I didn't want to speak, I'd sound like a mess. Instead I shook my head then pulled away, eyes landing on his bed.
"You can sit..." He motioned with a nod then continued. "Or lay down, I'll get you a hoodie."
I walked over to his bed and climbed onto it. It was neatly made so I had to pull back the covers before laying underneath them. I rested on my side, back towards Shawn. My eyes were fixed on the family photo that hung on the wall I faced, but my attention was on the sounds Shawn made as he searched his drawers for a hoodie. Moments later he had dropped one onto me and I gladly picked it up and pulled it over my head.
The bed dipped and he climbed in with me. Shawn was a tall individual so the blanket didn't cover as much of him as it did myself. He gently put his arm around me and I turned on my other side, cheek then resting against his lower chest as he laid on his back.
"Are you going to tell me why you're in my bed at this time of night with puffy eyes, my hoodie, and a short dress that isn't paired with heels." He chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. I knew he was nervous. His laugh wasn't a sincere one.
"My parents fought.." His hand began to softly rub my back. "I didn't want to stay there, home I mean."
"And the dress?" He pressed.
"Why'd you ignore me?"
"You were going to Sammy's party right? The one him and Ja-"
"Why do you care so much about Sammy?" I sat up and looked him in the eyes. He looked away and stared up at the ceiling.
"Shawn?" I urged in annoyance.
He swallowed hard and clenched his jaw. "You can stay the night. I'll get you home before my parents wake up." With that he removed his arm from me then turned around so I was staring at nothing but his back.
I didn't understand.
