As she walked towards the front steps of her dorm, she saw someone sitting there, as she got closer she saw it was Mike. "Mike! What are you doing here?"
"Where have you been all day? I texted you and called you?" He asked getting up and hugging her.
"Sorry, I left in a hurry and forgot my phone. Patrice had an accident. Someone ran her over and left her for dead."
"Yes, I saw the news. That's why I came over as soon as I could, hoping it wasn't the same Patrice. How is she?"
"She woke up. She's all banged up, but she'll recover."
"That's great news. I was worried about you all day. I'm so sorry for the way I left last night. Specially after such a special night." He said pulling her closer. He kissed her cheek. "I got a text from work, some reports needed fixing right away."
"It's okay. I was just worried I did something wrong."
"You did nothing wrong. Everything was perfect." He said kissing her lips. "Want to go get some coffee?"
"Sure." She said as they walked hand in hand through campus to the coffee shop. There they sat next to the window watching the students walk by. "They are all unaware of how dangerous it is out there." She broke the silence.
"What do you mean?" He asked, sipping from his cup and holding her hand.
"Look what happened last night, just around the corner. Patrice could've been killed and he or she is still loose." He got up and sat next to her and put her arm around her as they just sipped on their coffee and looked outside. "I still remember the first day of college when I walked into the dorm and Patrice was already there. She's from New Jersey. She wouldn't shut up." She said laughing.
"By what you've told me, she seems to have a lot to say."
"She wanted to know everything about me. She wouldn't stop asking questions. I never had a girlfriend before. Sure, in school there were girls I knew but I never had a close friend. My parents never let me go out, I could only go out with Landon. So girls would just talk to me in school."
"Why would your parents do that?"
"They are overprotective. I guess since my sister died they want to keep me locked up. So meeting Patrice and having her be so interested in my life was weird at first. I even told Landon I wanted to change rooms."
"Why didn't you?"
"I'm so glad I didn't. I got really sick like the day before I was going to request the change. I had a high fever, thought I was dying and Patrice stayed by my side the whole time nurturing me back to health. Even Landon disappeared on those days. After that we've been inseparable. There was a moment when I found out she was a lesbian and she asked me out and I freaked out a bit. But we got over it, she said she preferred me as a friend."
As they walked back to her room, he pulled her hand back. "You know, I don't feel comfortable with you staying here by yourself. Why don't you come with me?"
"I'll be okay. I'll be in my room. Plus I have an early class tomorrow, and have finals coming. I won't be able to concentrate at your place." She said smiling.
"Okay, but if anything happens you are going to call me. I'll come get you, don't want you going out at night by yourself." He said, wrapping his arms around her waist pulling her closer. Their lips met with passion. She leaned into him as his hands pulled her closer.
"You better go." She whispered. "Or I won't let you go." He give her one last quick kiss and pulled away from her watching her climb the stairs to the building.
