She noticed it was getting dark. Still hadn't heard from Mike. She stopped what she was doing and went to take a shower. When she got out she noticed a missed call from Mike, but no voicemail, so she called him back. "Hello?" He answered.
"Hi, are you here already?" She asked excitedly.
"Of course, and I can't wait to see you. Just came to drop off my things. Where can I pick you up?"
"I'll send you the address. Just text me when you get here and I'll go downstairs." She said sending him the address.
"Sure will. Hold up. Okay, got it. See you in fifteen minutes or do you need more time?"
"No, that's more than enough. I need to see you."
She said as he laughed."Me too. See you soon." And he hung up.
She started to look through her closet for something to wear. It was pretty warm, so she picked a short black skirt and a white thin blouse. She put on some light makeup and headed out the door. She crashed with her father. He had just come home from work. "Dad, sorry." She said steadying herself.
"Going somewhere?"
"Yes, going to meet a friend."
"A friend? Your only friend moved to New Jersey."
"Dad, now is not the time."
He grabbed her arm hard and pulled her back. "Who is this friend, Alice?"
"Dad, stop, you're hurting me!" She cried.
"What's going on?" Julia said coming out of the room. "Carl, what is this?"
"She says she's going out with a friend. I would like to know what friend she's meeting, specially dressed like that."
"Mom, tell him to let go of me." She said as her phone buzzed.
Her mother took the phone from her hand and looked through it. "Mike is here. Who is Mike?"
Alice was able to grab the phone back from her mother's hands. "It's my boyfriend, okay? Are you happy?"
"You're not leaving until we've met this guy and agree that he's right for you. Now it's not a good time. Tell him we will let him know when he can come calling on you." Carl said, loosening his grip.
"Call on me? Do you listen to yourselves? I'm twenty one. I don't need your permission." She said walking out of the apartment as her father tried to grab her again, but she was faster. She ran down the stairs and left the building she saw Mike standing next to the car. "Get in, quick!" She said as he jumped in the car and she jumped on the passenger seat. Mike looked at his rear view mirror.
"Who's that?" He asked as he saw a man running after them.
"My father. Just keep going." He placed his hand on hers and sped up.
