She quickly put on her clothes and ran downstairs and out the door. It was dark. She couldn't see anything, no lights. She had to get away. If she cut through the corn straight, she should be able to get to the road and hide from him at the same time. She only hoped she didn't get lost. "Alice!" She heard him call for her. "Now you've done it! When I catch you, I'm throwing you back in that bunker, you'll never see the light of day again."

She stood still trying not to make a noise. She heard him struggle with the keys in the garage door and opened it. Then she heard him turn on the car. If she could follow the car's noise to the road, she could probably find the road. The car passed by her. She kneeled down as she saw him pointing a flashlight toward her. She started crawling following the car's noise. He was going slow, pointing the flashlight through the field.

She was getting exhausted. Her arms and legs ache from crawling. She could hear animals around her. The car stopped. She quickly stopped as she heard him get out and go into the field. She looked and could see the headlights, they pointed to the road. She made it! If only she could run without him seeing her or reaching her.

Suddenly she heard a car coming, this was her chance. Mike was close too. She got up and ran as fast as she could towards the road. She saw the headlights coming, she stood in the middle of the road and waved her arms. The car stopped and a man poke his head out the window. "Is everything okay, ma'am?" He asked as she ran to the passenger side and got in.

"Please, you need to help me! I've been kidnapped, he's after me." As the man drove away they passed a shirtless Mike with a bloody head looking at her intensely.

"Is that him? He looks crazy!" The man said as he sped away.

The man took her to the closest police department. They put her in a room and took her statement. "You've been missing for almost two months, Miss Fletcher." One of the officers said, handing her a drink. "Your parents have been worried sick."

"So, his name is Mike Cunningham, correct? He was your boyfriend?" Another officer asked, taking notes.
"Mister Thompson gave us the address where he picked you up." He said, referring to the man that picked her up. "But we found the place empty already. There was some blood in the master bedroom, I am assuming from when you hit him."

"So, he got away?"

"We are looking for him, Miss Fletcher, we'll find him."

She found out she was in a town three hours away from her home. They gave her a phone to call her parents. "Hello? Alice, is it really you?" Julia asked.

"Yes, mom it's me."

"I am so glad you're alive. We were so worried. We were thinking the worst. They say the guy you were dating was the one that took you. You see! That's why we protected you so much and wanted to know everything going on in your life. We weren't controlling you, Alice."

"I know, mom. And I am so sorry to put you through this again. I should be home in a few hours, okay?"

"Okay, we'll see you soon. We love you, sweetie." And they hung up.

"Officer Hoyt is going to be taking you home, okay." Someone said behind her after she hung up. She got up and smiled at the young officer. "Whenever you're ready he will take you."

"I am ready." She said eager to leave that town.

On the way home, she nodded off a couple of times, but kept having nightmares and waking up. All she could think about is that Mike was still out there. He was capable of a lot of things. He could get her again. As if reading her mind, the officer spoke. "Don't worry, until they catch him, you'll be under protection." He reassured her.
