Chapter 2

On the way back to the dorm, her phone rang and she pressed the answer button on her steering wheel. "Hi, mom!" She answered.

"Hi, sweetie. How did it go?" Her mother, Julia Fletcher, asked.

"I think it went really well. At first I was so nervous. I thought I was going to mess it up. But then I opened my mouth and told them about how much I love books and how much I would like to be an editor for them. They were impressed by my resume and the recommendations."

"I knew having connections would pay off one day. Wait until I tell your father, he's going to be thrilled. Are you on your way back?"

"Yes."

"Come over for dinner tonight, it feels like we haven't seen you in ages."

"Mom, we went shopping two days ago. And I can't today. Have a big test tomorrow."

"Okay then, sweetie. Remember to concentrate on those studies. Love you."

"Love you, too, mom. Bye."

As Alice entered her dorm room, she found Patrice Knowles, her roommate, sitting on the floor with a book on her lap. "Hey, girl. What's with the professional look?"

"I had that interview today."

"Oh, shit. That's right. How did it go?" Patrice said, putting the book aside.

"It went well. Hopefully I will hear back from them soon." Alice sat on the bed. "As I was leaving, this handsome guy got in the elevator with me. And when he got off he gave me this look and winked, melting me away."

"Did you get a name or a number?"

"No, I couldn't think. Anyway, he was too good looking to even pay any attention to me."

"Alice, you're beautiful. I've asked you out multiple times and you've let me down all of them."

"Patrice!" She blushed. "You know I love you like a sister."

"I know, me too. I just love to make you blush. Anyway, about Mr. Stranger, do you think he works at the firm?"

"He might, he might be an executive or maybe an editor there. He was wearing a really nice suit. I wonder if I'll see him again."

"Maybe you will be working under him." Patrice said with a wink.
