Reo knew that he wasn't anything special when it came to football.
Sure he worked hard and was a decent player, but he didn't have that extra spice that made him a Messi or Ronaldo. That's why when he met Nagi, he was so ecstatic. He treated Nagi like an extension of himself, the missing extra he needed to become an amazing player. It didn't matter if he had to carry him everywhere or do extra work for him, because he would work hard enough for both of them. Reo would be the mind and Nagi would be the body, a complete duo.
When Reo met you, he didn't think much of you, just another person in the way of the duo's dream of being the greatest in the world. But when you kicked that ball in the preliminaries, he knew you were the missing piece he needed. The boy had an eye for this kind of thing, spotting people who were special.
The mind, body and soul. That's what the three of you would be.
He could see it now! The three of you going on to win the World Cup! And the more time he spent with you, the more everything fell into place. You weren't someone he had to baby, and he even found himself enjoying the time around you! Not to mention the fact you got along with Nagi and helped him take care of him.
His excitement for the first game was immeasurable, though as the first-half of the game passed it soon turned to frustration. You had refused to do anything at all! Whenever you received the ball, you would just pass it off to someone else. How could he utilize your weapon if you refused to even play!
He was determined to make you do something. And when you did do something, it was amazing. You had taken the ball all the way from the far end of the field, to the net all by yourself by passing all the players on the other team, and beating a 2-on-1. It was the ultimate 'Egoist' play, a 1 vs 11.
That final play was the final bullet that shot down any hope that Team W had of winning. No way they could compete with the monster on team V.
Despite it being only one goal, your play had sent out a message to the world. That team V was one to be feared.
You watched as team Y wallowed in their defeat. One boy in particular you recognized, seemed to be particularly distraught. You decided to approach him, you know good sportsmanship and all that crap.
You approached the boy who was on the ground. It was the smaller of the two that had ambushed you, with a big fluffy fringe that coverd his eyes. His eyes were covered so you couldn't tell if he was crying or not, but just his body language itself told you he was upset.
"Hey, are you okay?" You said, giving him a hand to get up. "You know, at the end of the day it's just a game. Life moves on, nothing to get too worked up about."
"Just a game...?" The boy said, before slapping your hand away harshly. "Next time we play each other, we'll beat you by so much you'll wish it was "just a game" !" The boy cried in anger.
As he looked up at you, his bangs moved in a way that allowed you to see his eyes for the first time. They were big and turquoise. The tears in his eyes he was fighting back made them shine like jewels. He also had long eyelashes that complimented his face, overall you really couldn't wrap your head around why he would hide his eyes behind his hair.
"You have pretty eyes." You blurted out before quickly covering your mouth in embarrassment. He probably thought you were mocking him. Instead of responding, he just gritted his teeth and quickly fixed his bangs so they covered his eyes again. You could see a small bit of blush forming on his cheeks, no doubt from embarrassment.
"Shut up! We'll kick your ass!" He said, while getting up and running off to his team's change room.
You watched as the short boy walked off, calming down the farther he got away from you. Now that you thought about it, you did sound a bit like an asshole. To these guys, one loss could be the difference between living out their dream and having any chance at being on the Japanese football team snatched away. You should be more cautious in the future when you say stuff like that, it seems to be a touchy subject.
