Chapter 15

Back at the lair, Raph lies awake in his bed, thinking.

Raph: What happened between Leo and Cuphead? I know they got into an argument, but.....did something happen? Did one of them say something wrong?

Then, Raph heard footsteps and steps out of his room.

Raph: Who's there?

Leo: Raph!

Raph: Leo? What are you doing up so late?

Leo: There's no time! Go get Donnie! Cuphead needs help!

Raph: What do you mea-

Then, Raph saw Mikey carrying an unconscious Cuphead. He wears a concerned expression on his face.

Mikey:.......

Mugman:.......

Raph: Guys? What happened to Cuphead?

Mugman: He....he....

Mikey: He got attacked....but we don't know who, though.....

Raph: I'll go get Donnie. You guys say where you are.

Raph walks off.

With Donnie, he works on something in his lab.

Donnie: (sigh) Perhaps this can wait another day. I've been on this for the past few days....

Donnie got up from his lab chair when suddenly he heard a knock.

Donnie: Hello?

Raph: Donnie....

Donnie: What is it, Raph?

Raph:.....

Donnie: Raph? What's wrong?

Raph: You remembered what happened a few days ago?

Donnie: I think so. I heard Leo and Cuphead got into an argument a few days back.

Raph: Leo and Cuphead ran off into the city by themselves.

Donnie: Are they alright?

Raph: Sort of.

Donnie: What do you mean?

Raph: Mikey and Mugman went off to look for them.

Donnie: What?! Are they out of their minds?

Raph: Relax. They are waiting in the living room right now.

Meanwhile.....

Leo: (sigh)

Mugman sat on the couch in silence while Cuphead still remains unconscious next to him. Both Raph and Donnie walked in the living room. Donnie looked at Raph.

Donnie: They're okay....thank goodness....

Raph:......

Donnie: Raph? What's wrong?

Then, Donnie looks down to find Cuphead on on the couch, unconscious.

Donnie: Oh.

Later, Cuphead has bandages wrapped around his injured chest and still remains unconscious.

Mugman: Is he gonna be okay, Donnie?

Donnie: I....I'm not sure....we're just gonna have to wait until he wakes up.

Later, everyone except Mugman and Leo left to go back to sleep. Mugman sat by his brother's side and Leo sat on a pillow on the floor.

Leo: Hey, Mugman?

Mugman: Yeah?

Leo: I....I'm sorry....

Mugman: It's okay.....

Leo: What?

Mugman: It's not your fault or Cuphead's. No one's to blame here....I know you didn't mean what you said and I understand why you lashed out at my brother.

Leo: I....I was blinded by my anger....

Mugman: After all you and your family had been through, I understand now....

Leo: He....was only trying to help me....and I got mad for no reason.....

Mugman: Leo....

Leo: It's my fault that he's like this....I never got the chance to apologize to him.....

Mugman sat in front of Leo.

Mugman: Leo. Look at me. It's. Not. Your. Fault. No one's to blame here, okay? You shouldn't blame yourself, either. You didn't mean what you said. It's not your fault here. No one is.

Then, Mugman looks down.

Mugman: No one but me.....

Leo: ?! Huh? What do you mean?

Mugman: It's my fault for not noticing it sooner. I should've helped you two. I saw you ran by me and Mikey a few days back and I was so stupid for not noticing this sooner. I should've talked to you or Cuphead about it but I was too busy to notice.

Then, Mugman felt a hand on his shoulder. Mugman looks at Leo, who wears a concerned expression on his face.

Leo: Mugman. Look at me, okay? It's not your fault, either.  Like you said, no one's at fault here. You didn't know what happened. No one did.

Mugman: But it's still my fault....

Leo pulls his friend into a hug.

Mugman: Leo, I-

Leo: Don't you ever say that again. It's no one's fault. It's not your fault, mine, Mikey's, or anyone else's. No one's to blame here, okay?

Mugman:.......

Leo: Mugman?

Mugman: I.....I don't know if Cuphead will ever wake up....

Mugman hugs his friend back.

Leo: Me, neither.....

Both friends embraced into the hug for a few minutes and separates after.

Leo: Get some rest, Mugman. I'll keep on eye on Cuphead.

Mugman: Okay.....I need rest, anyway....

A few minutes later, Mugman slept on the opposite side of the couch covered in a blanket and his head resting on a pillow while Leo sat next to the couch to keep an eye on his friends.

Leo: Please wake up, Cuphead.....your brother needs you....we all need you....
